The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 44

Parker was a heavy drinker, down for anything, and came from a great background; he was highly popular in their circle.

Seraphina was gorgeous, sweet-talking, and also from a wealthy family; her list of friends was equally massive.

The two of them rallied a huge crowd to come out and drink in the dead of night.

Compared to the effortless composure she had when she first returned to the country, Seraphina was visibly agitated, struggling to maintain her elegant facade.

"I just went abroad to study for a few years, and suddenly none of you treat me like a friend anymore, is that it?!"

"What about all those years of friendship we had?!"

"What did I do wrong to deserve this? Do you know how hard it was for me overseas? Do you know how hard it is to get a master's degree abroad? I didn't buy my way in, I passed those exams myself!"

"I failed a class one year, and I practically lived in the library. When I was tired, I was surviving on espresso shots and sheer willpower to stay awake. Who do you think I worked so hard for?"

"What right do you all have to be annoyed by me?!"

After downing half a bottle of wine, Seraphina propped her right foot on the table, frantically questioning the entire room.

Her friends immediately chimed in to placate her.

"Of course not! Seraphina, we missed you the whole time you were away!"

"Yeah, exactly! Friends for a day, friends for life!"

"You've been through so much, come on, let's keep drinking!"

Parker could tell that the 'you all' in Seraphina's rant was specifically referring to Maloney.

"Seraphina." Parker stood up from the booth, walking over and wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "Don't rush things. You just got back, everything is just starting. Take it slow."

Seraphina slammed her hand on the table. "I can't take it slow!"

Her family was about to ship her back overseas!

Since she was little, no matter what she asked for, her parents had made it happen. This was the first time they had ever rejected her.
