The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 52

Jasmine had been caught in a pile-up at an intersection.

A kid had jaywalked, causing the first car to slam on its brakes. The second car, following too closely, rear-ended it.

Jasmine was in the third car and rear-ended the second.

The heavy impact sent the second car lurching forward, smashing into the first one all over again.

Soon after, a fourth and fifth car piled on, sending shockwaves through the line.

A middle-aged man with a beer belly stood by Jasmine's car, banging aggressively on her window and screaming. "Do you even know how to drive?! I can't stand women drivers! I hit the brakes, didn't you know how to hit yours?! If you'd just stepped on the damn brake, my car wouldn't be trashed!"

A tall, lanky young guy standing nearby chuckled around a cigarette. "Take it easy on the girl, man. She's so scared she won't even come out."

The older guy slammed his elbow into the glass again and spat on the ground. "I just checked the front four cars. My bumper got it the worst! Just my freaking luck to have a woman driving behind me!"

The younger guy offered him a smoke, grinning. "Maybe she thought you were handsome and wanted to bump into you on purpose."

Hearing that, a sleazy smirk spread across the older man's face. He puffed out his chest and laughed. "Then she aimed for the wrong spot."

The two of them blocked Jasmine's door, smoking and swapping crude jokes.

A cop walked over to clear the area. Not wanting trouble, the younger guy hurried back to his vehicle. The older man just pointed at his wrecked car, insisting he needed to stand guard.

The kid who jaywalked was injured, and the fifth car had a pregnant woman inside. The cop couldn't linger, tossing a quick warning at the man before rushing off.

The man crushed his cigarette out right against Jasmine's window.
