Afternoon tea had just ended, and the dinner rush hadn't started yet. Nora and Maloney were the only guests in the cafe.

But it was still broad daylight, entirely out in the open, and fully exposed.

Nora had literally just seen a waitress glance over toward the terrace!

Maloney parted his legs slightly, seating Nora on his left thigh. She was angled inward, her legs tucked close, the toes of her shoes lightly brushing against his right shin.

Nora shot Maloney several warning glares.

Maloney acted as if he didn't see them. Instead, he kept his arm securely hooked around her waist and hoisted her slightly higher against his chest.

Nora's feet dangled in the air.

She squirmed in protest, but Maloney just tightened his grip. Leaning forward slightly, he brushed his nose against the curve of her neck, inhaling deeply.

It was a blend of a subtle perfume and a scent uniquely hers.

Maloney couldn't help but narrow his eyes in satisfaction.

Nora rarely wore perfume.

She only applied a light mist for formal events.

Maloney had seen the pink bottle on her vanity, but he had never known exactly what it smelled like until now. It was a crisp, refreshing burst of fruit.

It fit her perfectly—clean, bright, and endearing.

Maloney pressed a soft kiss against her neck.

Nora froze.

Her face contorted in shock, absolutely furious but terrified to make a sound.

Even as he kissed her, Maloney flawlessly continued answering questions from the person on the other end of the line.

Every time he spoke, his warm breath fanned across her sensitive skin.

And he was speaking in English!

His voice was deep, magnetic, and resonant.

If Nora didn't perfectly understand that he was discussing the funding structure for a foreign acquisition, she would have sworn he was whispering filthy, romantic things into her ear.

She couldn't yell at him, and she couldn't run away.
