Chapter 174
Gemma’s POV
The moment the jet lifts off the runway, I allow myself a single exhale. One breath of peace before chaos inevitably follows.
It doesn’t take long.
Dragging her ridiculous silver suitcase like she’s just arrived to bless us with her presence, Reyna saunters toward me with that half–apologetic, half–smug smile she reserves for guilt–tripping.
“Gemma… I’m so sorry for the last–minute surprise! I didn’t know until the very last moment that I’d be joining, and packing took forever—though I only brought essentials to save everyone’s time!”
Her hands flutter over her Louis Vuitton trunk like she expects applause for her restraint.
How generous!
I slowly lift my eyes towards her, keeping my expression flat.
“Wow, look at you. Arriving at the final second like some kind of/superhero, expecting us all to cheer because you gaaced us:53 with vour presence. Tell me, do vou actually believe vou’re

I continue coldly.

“Because let me tell you, the only thing you’ve successfully done is to delay the flight, mess up the schedule, and waste the crew’s time.”
Reyna opens her mouth. “Actually, I told you-”
“Before you offer another explanation, why don’t you apologize to the entire staff for making them stand around while you played last–minute princess?”
Her cheeks flush slightly, but before she can respond, Cassian’s voice breaks in, calm and steady.
“Reyna, it’s fine. Just go and take the front seat, left side. You don’t need to do anything else.”
Cassian walks closer and sits next to me, keeping his voice low.
“Gemma, have some empathy. She just got fired and wanted to use this trip to Nassau to meet with a recruiter. An agency’s sending someone. That’s all, I only brought her to give her a chance. But going forward, I’ll make sure you’re comfortable

I shut my eyes and let the silence hang between us before I open my mouth again.

He stiffens. “Gemma, come on.”
“No, I’m serious.”

His jaw flexes. “I get it, you’re upset. But how could I kick her out once the flight’s taken off? Why can’t you think of her as just another passenger, when you have the entire flight to yourself?”
“Really? Because if Grandpa found out what kind of
‘passengers‘ you’re bringing along, I’m pretty sure he will rise from his hospital bed and fly to Nassau just to personally toss her off the island. Do you want him to ignore his health for her tantrums? But then again, when have you ever respected my decisions?”
“You’re blowing this way out of proportion, Gemma! Don’t you think you’re over–react-”
No. You’re underreacting, as usual.
Cassian says nothing, and I too, fall silent. It’s not worth arguing over the fact that once again, my opinion was never consulted.
Halfway through the flight, I hear the sound of fake gagging.
Įglance over just in time to see Reyna wincing in pain. She

little airsick, I think.”

I roll my eyes and return to my book, but I’m not surprised when I see the attendant crouch, and Reyna whispers something into her ear.
Seconds later, the attendant walks toward us and clears her throat.
“Sir,” she addresses Cassian with a smile, “if your girlfriend isn’t feeling well, perhaps we can switch seats so she can be closer to you and can rest properly?”
Cassian looks like he has been carved from stone, but I slip my hand through his arm and rest my head lightly against his shoulder. “Honey…”
I
say in the most sugary voice I can manage, “But didn’t you say she was just an employee?”
The attendant’s face drains as I tilt my head, offering them both a dazzlingly fake smile.
“You can correct her if I misunderstood?”
The moment I say the words, the flight attendant’s eyes widen, her professional mask slipping for one delicious second where

some sort of clarification.
Cassian opens his mouth.
“Gemma-”

But I lean in close to his ear and cut him off with a whisper, soft enough to not be overheard.
“If you so much as take one step in her direction, this honeymoon ends the moment we land. We will go home tomorrow, and I’ll file for divorce the day after. You’re free to explain whatever you wish to everyone else.”
His jaw clenches, and I know he doesn’t like being trapped into making choices. But either way, he’s already weighing his options, which are simple enough.
Reyna’s drama, or the final snap of a marriage already hanging by a thread?
At the end, he turns to the flight attendant and says flatly,
“I’m not a doctor. If your crew can’t help her, I certainly can’t either.”
The attendant’s jaw drops for a moment, caught off guard by the sharp turn of events. She nods awkwardly and turns away 576 scurrying down the aisle toward Reyna with a mumbled, “I’ll
