He woke up to that feeling one always got when their Mate was going into heat, and he got up and kind of scrubbed his hand over his face. Mischa wasn’t even in the pack and he knew it. She should be back by now, knowing that her heat was coming, but he knew she’d gone to the Rising Blue Lotus, had been there since Christy’s monumental fuck–up, and she’d not returned.

Hadn’t bloody once picked up his call or answered a text from him in days now. Not since she’d yelled at him about going and having sex with Christy and going back to completely forgetting her. It was like she had just put her phone down and wouldn’t even give him the time of day anymore.

He’d called to apologize and tell her he wasn’t trying to force her hand into fixing things, but it was all she could see that he wanted of her. Now here was her heat, and he could feel it, and she wasn’t anywhere near him. Not that he thought she would want to have him Mate her at all. The last time had been traumatic for him and her.

He’d not truly understood how bad it was for her until that moment and now here it was again six months later and their relationship wasn’t fixed in any way; it was, he believed, even worse than it had been before. Now her heat was here, and she wasn’t going to have it be able to be sorted out by him. Once again, she was going to be abandoned to the bouts on her own. Which was, he knew only going to compound on how broken they were.

He looked at his phone and checked the day and time and realized her heat was early. It would normally come on the third or fourth of the month, and it was barely the 1st, three days earlier than normal.

She wouldn’t be expecting it and, as he looked at the time, he could only hope that she was inside a scent–proofed room in that pack, and not outside letting Laud wander about in wolf form where just any old wolf could scent her heat and race towards her. He knew Nicholas‘ pack was large and, depending on where she was, if outside, as to how long it would take her to get back to the packhouse if she wasn’t in her suite, that preheat could bloom into a full heat before she got inside.

Then he felt it, the first pains of betrayal, as another touched her and he gasped in pain as he understood what it meant, either she’d been outside in the woods or she was actively letting another mate her through her heat. He couldn’t even do anything about it, he was here inside Night Whispers in his suite, and she was hundreds of miles away.

It would be long over before he could get down there to that pack, and he wasn’t going to be able to drive while suffering the pains of betrayal. His mouth burned with pain, as parts of his body did as well, until it hit him fully. Another was actually mating his Luna right now. He and his beast roared in pain as they felt it all, and couldn’t do anything about it but endure the agony of it for however long it lasted.

He connected himself to Brent the moment there was nothing, it kind of just stopped, and he thought it was over, and he managed to get the words ‘Pains of betrayal‘ out before the link was torn away from his mind as more pain ripped through him, all of a sudden only a brief pause in the mating that was going on with her.

He understood it, it was just a change of position, she’d be lost to the need to mate at this point. The only thing to stop the pain of her bout would be being mated even though he knew she wouldn’t want that. She, being wolfen, also craved it and wouldn’t care anymore who it was mating her. He was tearing at himself all claws out, and he could smell his own blood, as he and his beast tried to tear at where the pain was, when he felt something stab into his back, and then burned under his skin, he spun around to strike out at whoever was trying to harm him, only to see Brent, Kendrick and Dereck all there staring at him.

He felt the pain die down and kind of staggered about as he realized what had happened. He’d been hit with a wolfen tranquilizer dart. “Mischa is in heat, and..” he trailed off as he kind of tilted and then fell to the floor.

“Being mated by another,” he heard Brent state as he felt darkness drag him under.

His eyes flickered open some time later, and he didn’t know how long it had been, only that even awake he couldn’t get up, not only did his body ache everywhere, but also because he didn’t want to right this very minute, as it all came flooding back to him, what had happened in the wee hours of the morning. He was lying in his bed, and as he looked about the room he laid eyes on Harvey.

What could he say to one of the former Alpha’s to the pack? It was clear that Kendrick had informed them. Hell, he knew they’d have documented it in his file, even what he was shot up with. “Did anyone call and see if she is okay?” he asked.

“Hmm, many did. No one answered her phone,” Harvey stated simply. “She didn’t pick up for Letti or Becca either. She’s having a difficult time dealing with it, or it was intended, and she doesn’t care to explain herself to you, or anyone here, after all that has happened in the past year.”

“She would never intentionally do that to me, no matter how broken we are, it’s not who she is.” He stated and scrubbed a hand over his face.

“You say that, but… Even Paul recommended after her last heat, that we let someone else tend to it. We agreed. She can’t go through it alone all the time, it will kill her eventually. She is also in a pack with Paul right now, I believe… Alpha Nicholas will likely, at Paul’s asking, send a warrior to sate her heat, regardless she is still mated to you.

“You’ve got bigger problems than the pains of betrayal. It’s possible Nicholas now knows everything that has happened here inside this pack to Mischa; who is where, right now, Anthony… Do you think he’s just going to return her here to this pack, if he actually knows all the harm that has befallen her at the hands of you and your other Mate?

“They get along, more than just friends… I’d say, like family. I also noted a while back she went from calling him Nicholas to Nick, which means their bond has gotten even closer over the past six months. Could well be considered extended family to her, or to him,

“You know yourself how big he is on respect and loyalty, if he knows the entire truth, what do you think he’s thinking about Christy right now and her behavior. How would he deal with her? Especially when you’ve yet to take Christy down there and have her apologize to him and his Luna, so you can sort out that new alliance deal.” Harvey shook his head.

“Christy nearly miscarried.” Anthony muttered and finally sat himself up.

That is not what Brent stated. There were no signs of miscarriage at all, it was just growing pains” Harvey stated flatly, “So you could have gotten back in the car and gone down there, yet you didn’t. It’s been days. now since you were supposed to do that. What did you tell Nicholas as to why you’ve put it off for so long?

“There’s a concern she’ll miscarry with the stress of what she has to do. I offered my apologies right away in her place,” Anthony answered.

“So, what Nicholas sees is, Christy isn’t willing to go and actually apologize, which I believe is what even Mischa thinks, she’ll find some way to get out of it. Which she now has, I see. She’s still got you wrapped around her finger, in other words.” Harvey shook his head. “To be completely brutally honest with you, Anthony, so what if she does miscarry that pup! She was the one to cause the pack alliance to fall and bring about all of this. So that stress she claims to have, is her own fault.

“It’s not like that pup is the heir to the pack, you stated that yourself. So, if she loses it over something as simple as going and having to give an apology, that shows just how weak she really is. I’ve never heard of a she–wolf miscarrying over having to kneel and give an apology. Fixing the pack alliance is more important than Christy giving birth to a pup that you’re never going to let sit in the Alpha seat.

“That us, the Elders, are never going to let sit in the seat either. She made her bed long ago, Anthony. You are aware of this. You should have dealt with her the way Nicholas would have. The way he did with that she–wolf that hurt him and Lucinda and nearly tore them apart.

“Christy hurt Mischa and has torn you two apart, her head should come off. The way we, all the Elders, wanted it to a year ago now. The way Mischa herself wanted to get rid of that she–wolf too, for the harm she tried to have you do to her.”

“Goddess–Gifted,” Anthony stated. “I have to protect what is gifted to me.”

“Oh, is that so… but you only protect Christy, you don’t look out for Mischa anymore. I don’t know why you still even spout that nonsense; it’s a lie you tell yourself to keep both of them when you clearly don’t deserve both.” Harvey shook his head.

Then he stood up and stared at Anthony for a long moment. “I suggest you put that other Mate of yours in your car and drive her to the Rising Blue Lotus, and make her kneel and apologize before our biggest ally. No not suggest… We, the Elders, demand Christy go and apologize, right now.

“If she doesn’t get in the car and go, we’ll take that as she’s guilty of sabotaging the pack alliance, and that is traitorous behavior. We will not only revoke her title, but brand her a traitor, and you’ll be forced to reject her or leave with her, when she’s banished to the wilds of rogue territory to have that pup alone.

“What we expect of you is to follow through, so when she tells you she thinks she’s miscarrying in the car on the way there, which I’m expecting her to do, tell her it was growing pains last time, Nick’s pack doctor can tend to her when you get there. Call her out on it, and make her go regardless of what she says

“If she calls you cruel and says you don’t love her, tell her to reject you and enforce it with that Alpha’s oath. You are now being held accountable to the Elders in full for Christy’s behavior. If she can’t do as she claims she wants to, then she obviously doesn’t actually want to.” Harvey stated and left the room
