Declan

He was sitting in his office when he took a call from Nicholas and smiled. He’d yet to impart either of the good news to him, though he had informed his unit about Mischa feeling the mate bond sparks, Holland and Mack had kind of just stared at him and Paul had snorted ‘lucky bugger’.

Paul had not doubted her words at all, and he’d gone on to explain that Misha wouldn’t say it unless it was true, because she wouldn’t actively cause her other Mate pains of betrayal on purpose. She wasn’t that kind of person, and the proof would come on the full moon anyway. It’s not something she can lie about and get away with.

He picked up the call and leaned back in his chair. “Nick, how are you?”

“I’m good, how are things going with you and Mish? It’s been a few weeks and well…” he trailed off.

Declan chuckled. “Are you fishing about the results of her heat?”

“Hmm, the polite way,” Nick answered.

“Are up for a visit, say, on the full moon. I’m not hosting a ball, but you could come and see her, bring your unit, Lucinda and her women. You might all get a nice surprise.”

He heard Nick laugh now “A nice surprise, huh… you hoping for a boy or girl then?”

“I don’t care if it’s a boy or girl, just that they both survive the delivery,” he stated, and he

meant it.

“If you’re telling me that now, that’s not the surprise,” Nick commented.

“It’s not and the entire pack knows she is carrying my heir… as does the one bound to her. He was informed just 10 minutes or so after Mish was initiated into my pack, there are no secrets.” Declan informed him.

“You kept it from me and I sent her to your pack,” Nick murmured as if insulted a little.

“You’re only a day behind everyone else. We only found out at lunchtime yesterday,” Declan smiled. It really was a nice feeling. “Thank you for introducing us… about the full moon?” he asked. He had a feeling Mish wouldn’t mind, she more than liked Nick and Lucinda, they were kind of like family to her now. He was the big brother she’d never had, and he was protective

of her.

Declan had been willing to kind of become that for her as well, until things were settled with her Mate, but for him things had changed and were now even better.

“We’re not doing anything this full moon. We would normally be heading to the Night Whispers, but we’re not allied for now. Not until come the new year will it be reinstated. So yes, we have the time. I’ll speak with Lucinda and the units, though I don’t see it being a problem. How’d the asshole take it?” Nick asked on a more serious note.

“Hmm, that is unknown in full to me to be honest. It was like a parting shot at the end of a conversation with her stating it was the will of the Goddess, because her heat came early and I happened to step into the room where it bloomed. Then she hung up directly afterwards.”

He heard Nick laugh now, “Whatever you do, Declan, don’t tick her off, she’s got a very strategic mind, and can read others well, especially after getting to know them for a few weeks.”

“I have no intention of ticking her off, just having her reject the one attached to her and claiming her for myself. We’ve already discussed it and she and Laud are in agreement with this.”

“Chosen Mates are as good as Goddess-Gifted and I can only imagine you’re attracted to her.

“That I am, from the moment I laid eyes on her, I thought if she was mine I would lo-jack.” He chucked. “My second thoughts were what Alpha doesn’t love what he’s got. When she looks like that, and I’d bed her relentlessly.”

“So the surprise. Is that asshole going to be there?” Nick asked.

“Hmm, I doubt it, though I could invite him, I suppose. But your rules in that e-mail about severing ties with him and his pack. That would break that.”

could excuse it if I choose to. I would if it was going to see me watch her reject him and I got to force him to accept it. Which I will be.” Nick stated on a more serious note.

“I’d have to ask her. I wouldn’t want her to be blindsided, I’ll consider it.” He didn’t want to spoil the surprise of them actually scenting each other out on the full moon, so he stated what the original plan was; as his pack also saw it. “But she stated she wanted to wait until after the pup was born to reject him, didn’t want to risk losing the pup.”

There was silence for a long moment and then Nick said, “I don’t think she will. If it was in fact the will of the Goddess, she’ll not allow that to happen. She does appear to have Selena’s favor.”

“Hmm, I’m hoping so, but her rejecting him is up to her. I’m not going to force her hand. It’s not my style; she’ll do it when she is ready and not before.”

“That could be hard for you and your beast, considering she’s carrying your pup, and that will have you wanting to be near her and touching her all the time.” Nick stated, and Declan could hear the smile in his voice, he’d seen him and how he was with a pregnant Lucinda, the further along she was the more he craved to be near her and have paws on her.

“How long was Lucinda’s pregnancy, exactly?” Declan asked.

“Not long, but her genes are not what Misha’s are, so it will be different, I dare say,” Nick stated, “and the boys actually were a little longer, staying in the womb for about a week more than the girls did. So, anywhere from three and a half to four months would be my guess, so mid-Feb to early March I would be guessing, right after when your unit’s Mates are due in late January…” he trailed off and then laughed. “Ah! I see the Goddess did have a hand in it.”

“Appears so.” Declan nodded. “Did you call for anything else?”

“No, just thought I’d see if there was a pup or not from that heat. Oh, I heard Anne has moved down to your pack.”

“Yes. Arrived mid-morning today. How’d you know that?” he asked but declined to state she was going to be Mish’s personal omega once more, but he was certain Nick was now thinking that, he simply kept it off the table for now. He’d find out in a few days.

Nick laughed, “Oh come on Dec, I’ve got eyes and ears in Night Whispers. I know exactly what is going on up there, I am kept in the loop. I got quite a few wolves mated into that pack, but also because a new alliance deal is being made between myself and the new Alpha, that will be seated in December, something that came about at the request of the pack

Elders,

“Directly to the Wolfen Council, they went around Anthony, but his unit is in the know, are being kept for the new Alpha; they are good wolves, loyal to the pack, not Anthony specifically. They did what Mish asked at every turn as well, even coordinated an investigation against Anthony at Mish’s request.”

“That is good… So it’s a strategic take over to the Council’s liking then.” He murmured thoughtfully. “No bloodshed or very little.”

“Hopefully there will be none,” Nick stated, “but I believe it’s prepped for, and it won’t be the new Alpha asserting himself, it will be, I believe, Alpha Dennis himself that steps up.”

“That should see it go down without so much as a fight,” Declan agreed. “I suppose I should get her to reject him before that happens, or he’s likely to turn up here, and want to play the Mate card inside my pack, and I’m not having that, Wild will likely kill him, and I’ll let him from

the things I’ve now seen and heard, come from her and be said directly to him, or things she’s said when half asleep.”

“Then you have until the 1st of December, my friend, that’s the day the Council takes the new Alpha and Gamma into that pack.”

“Okay, thanks for the heads-up.” Declan nodded.

“Congratulations on the pup and snagging yourself an amazing Luna when the time comes, of course.” Nick returned.

words after Nick hung up, but then thought about how to deal with ough Alpha Dennis of the Wolfen Council, that was curious to him, he’d ollege and was the same age as Misha was, it was entirely possible that d crossed paths before, just a very long time ago.

oked that Alpha up to see what he looked like, simply because he didn’t care ow he was curious, had they come face to face in college? Even for a moment aps he’d arrive a month or two before Anthony left, he didn’t know. He did have Payphone still, it sat on his Alpha desk, charged up all the time.

want her using the packhouse phone or her new one if there was to be a ation between them, which would give him her new number. So keeping the old was for that very reason. He sat there and thought about what Nick had stated that only had until the 1st of December, then had Paul give him Anthony’s e-mail address.

Gamma just nodded and wrote it out for him, “Going to invite him to the full moon?” had en his only words.

No, I don’t need him spoiling Mish and my, Laud’s and Wild’s moment. But one or two days after that is acceptable. Nick stated a new Alpha is going to be seated on the, or directly after the 1st, so her rejection has to be done before then so he won’t come and want to stay in my pack. Solely because he’s got nowhere to go.”
