The Eclipsed Life of Luna Mischa (by Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 38

She did nothing about that upcoming mating ball, because although there was a valid reason to cancel it, she couldn’t state that to their allies, and she was not going to be the one that lied to them just to protect the woman that wanted her dead.

That shewolf had made her own bed, and it was filled with nails of her own doing, and now she had to lay in it, as far as Mischa was concerned.

She knew why Anthony wanted her to be the one to make those calls or send that sss regarding the cancellation of the mating ball, because it would show the allies that she had no animosity or resentment towards Christy, and what she’d done. That she’d forgiven her and was willing to let it all go because Christy had been punished. So Christy’s actions could also be excused and forgiven by their allies.

This would in fact stop some of their allies from rescinding the alliances they had with this pack. She could if she wanted to tell them all not to concern themselves with it, that she didn’t care about it, didn’t feel threatened by it.

That it had been dealt with her way, and she had, had both Christy and Anthony punished formally for their actions, and so she was willing to let it slide. So, they would too. Most would likely come to understand it meant she’d agreed to this under the proviso that it never happened again and, if it did, Christy’s head would come off.

That Mischa had been generous in giving Christy a second chance to prove herself, to change her ways and show she could be redeemed. It did happen at times, where there were two Mates to one Alpha.

She would be seen by their allies as calm, reasonable, compassionate and loyal to her Mate, and his mate bond to Christy itself. It would also be seen that Anthony wasn’t particularly seen as loyal to her, choosing Christy over Mischa even under a threat. Christy would forever be seen in a bad light by their allies. Never to be trusted around even their own Lunas.

If Christy so much as raised her voice to Mischa now, or stated a single bad word about her, or was heard around the pack even so much as implying Mischa wasn’t a good person or Luna, and Anthony didn’t reprimand her, it would only further ruin both of their reputations. Not only here but to their allies as well.

Most of the pack members had family out there among their allies, so just one word from this pack to any of them would see that happen. Christy had not thought past getting what she wanted, not thought about how what she’d tried to do could actually have allied pack ramifications that would be set into motion.

She sighed to herself inside her office. This was Christy’s mess and Anthony could set about cleaning it up himself, because no longer was she going to clean up the mess that either of them made, they were adults and could do it themselves.

He walked into her office an hour later, showered, shaved and dressed as he normally would be and took up a seat on the other side of her desk. Mischa, it’s normally a Luna’s duty to cancel a mating ball.

I’m aware of pack protocols,” she answered, I’ve been doing this for 22 years.” She reminded him, “So, you don’t need to come in here and tell me what I should or shouldn’t do. Have I ever not once followed pack laws or attended to the Luna’s duties?

No,” he sighed. But I’d like you to send out word to cancel the mating ball,he told her.

On what grounds is the cancellation for?she asked simply.

Mischa, you know why,” he stated right back.

Do you really want me to put it in writingshe asked and looked at him, then held out a pretyped statement of what she would send to their allies. Here read what I will send, if you insist that I be the one to cancel the mating ball to protect your precious Christy.

She knew what it read:

Dear Allies, the current mating ball is canceled due to Luna Christy trying to frame me, Luna Mischa, for Luna Christy having an overly long and aggressive heat, in which I regret to inform you that Alpha Anthony refused to step away from, or contact the pack doctor for assistance in the matter, and therefore he over mated Luna Christy, and she ended up injured by him and in the pack’s hospital.

Where she tossed out words that implied I, Luna Mischa, did something to her to cause this unexpected and overly long aggressive heat to happen. Alpha Anthony accepted her words without investigating them and I had to regretfully prove my innocence, which I have done.

Luna Christy is currently in the pack’s cells under full formal punishment for trying to have Alpha Anthony kill me, Luna Mischa for a crime that has now been proven by the elders, that not only did not happen, but I couldn’t possibly commit. Sorry for the inconvenience, there will be no mating balls to be held or attended for the next two full moons, Luna Mischa.’

She watched Anthony read it, and then he just looked at her and sighed. “It can’t be this, but surely there is something else that could be stated?he asked.

Then you think of it, and you lie to your allies. I will not be lying directly to any of them. That is a direct violation of what is in our alliance dealings. If they find out, I guess you’ll blame the lie on me as well, seeing as you’re the one asking me to write it and send it. I’m not about

to be your scapegoat.

That is not what this is, Mischa,he muttered.

Really, you’re in here asking me to lie to the allies forChristy, right. Who tried to have you kill me, Anthony. She stated flatly and shook her head. I see your still trying to defend her at every turn. Only now, you want me to defend her as well. Not going to happen. But I see from this very thing that you’re happy to have my name tarnished and by your own handfor Christy. She grated out, “Nothing at all has changed, she’s all that matters to you, I see.”

Mischa, it’s not like that at allthis is about how the allied packs will see us. I don’t want to lose allies and deals, the pack’s finances will take a massive hit if we lose them. I’m trying to keep the pack safe and financially stable,” he told her in an imploring tone.

Hmm, then perhaps you should have thought about that before you accused me unjustly of harming Christy, huh.She shrugged. It’s not my problem to solve, you and Christy caused this mess, so you can clean it up. Don’t look to me to do it, I won’t,she told him simply.

That’s a little unfair, don’t you think? As the Luna you also shouldn’t want the pack’s reputation to be ruined. He shot right back.

Hmm, by that logic, then, as the Luna, Christy should also not want to see this pack’s reputation ruined either, but she went on ahead and tarnished it anyway, now didn’t she.Mischa countered him right away So have her fix it in 8 weeks, when she gets out of the pack’s cells. She offered up.

He sat there just staring at her for a long minute as he came to the realization that she wasn’t actually going to help him with a pack issue for the very first time since they’d taken over. Then he just sighed heavily, Mischa, I have repented, been punished and by yourself as well. Please help me, help the pack keep its good standing with our allied.

She shook her head slowly. There was nothing he could say to her right now that would see her do that. You know, Anthony, here I was, thinking you’d actually be apologetic and try to make it up to me when you got off that shaming post. You did state to me, you wanted to see me. Well, now I see that was just a lie.She sighed, Please leave my office, I’ve got work to do. You go and deal with the mating ball on your own. Don’t involve me. I will not help you to protect Christy’s socalled good name and standing within this pack. Get out of my sight I don’t want to see you.

Mischa, I did want to see you, and I do want to make it up to you. Of course, I do, but you brought this matter to my attention, and it is a pressing matter, it has to be dealt with,” he stated.

Yes, I did, and it does, but all the allies that are invited are all only a few hours drive away.

They can be given notice even the day before the mating ball and not be offended. I brought it up with you to see where your priority lay is all. I see it’s still Christy who is your main concern, not our very broken mate bond at all.” She shook her head.

So I will grant you all the time and space, your freedom to be away from me and deal with the saving of Christy’s reputation and keeping your other Mate happy and secure in your mate bond, because I’m very sure she’ll be very unhappy with what you did to her and feel that you now don’t love her and needs your complete and undivided attention by way of proof that you do put her first and I don’t mean more to you than she does when she gets released. Mischa stated as she sat looking at him.

I guess, Anthony, that is more important to you than how broken we are. You’re not even allowed to see her for the next eight weeks. So you’ll have plenty of time to figure out how to make it up to Christy. Yet you couldn’t even spend one hour thinking about me, the Mate you hurt emotionally and physically on purpose.

One hour you’ve been off that shaming post and all you’ve done is think about how to get me to defend Christy’s actions to our allied packs. Do you still wonder why our mate bond is very broken? She asked. You, I see, are a blind fool and, right now, I’m not at all interested in anything you have to say to me.

There is no loyalty from you to me even now, so go and do as you please, Anthony. She stated and got up from her own desk seeing as he wasn’t going to leave and headed out of her office.

He followed and grabbed on to her arm. Where are you going?he pulled her to a stop.

To the pack hospital, three shewolves are currently in labor. Let go of me, I have Luna duties to attend to. I will not lack in my duties to this pack. She pushed his hand off her arm. I’m also not Christy, and wouldn’t bolt for the border with fake tears in order to gain your sympathy. If I was going to leave you I’d just reject you without warning and demand you accept it. Not cry wolf about it every other month. She shot at him and walked away.

There actually were three shewolves in labor, two omegas and one warrior. All of them, however, were only in the early stages of labor, but it gave her an excuse to walk the hell away from him.
