Mischa spent the entire day down in the pack’s hospital sitting in the pack doctor’s office, when she wasn’t needed in the delivery suite to give her Luna’s Blessing. Where she was taking the opportunity to read through some of the wolfen medical journals that were in the pack’s medical library.
A completely separate library from the main one inside the packhouse, it had been decided long ago that all medical books, journals or research papers would be housed within the hospital itself. This made it easier and quicker for them to be accessed by the pack’s doctors and any nursing staff.
The packs Librarian, Sandy, had smiled and nodded, been more than happy to help organize and create a medical coding system just for the library down here, and now she had two libraries to maintain and had added an achievement to her librarian’s degree as well.
Only the medical staff, and the hierarchy, and Sandy had access to this particular library because in some of those books were otherworldly poisons and drugs along with dosages and side effects that could harm wolves. There were also many books on human world substances that could be used against their own kind.
What the signs and symptoms of many toxic things were in order for them to figure out a cure or fix the problem if anyone within their pack became sickly, or for those stolen but retrieved she–wolves that were drugged up to keep them compliant. Those things were a necessity, but they could also be used to see what to use and how to use it, against any within this pack. So locked away they were.
It was just a precaution, something she had taken into account after what had happened with Alpha Nicholas and Luna Lucinda. They’d also locked up all the harmful drugs in the same manner that Alpha Nicholas had as well. No harmful drugs could be accessed by any one person, regardless of rank.
Two people had to sign them out, it was all now locked and secured by an automated computerized system where the door couldn’t be unlocked by just anyone. The drugs in that particular cabinet had to be linked to a patient on that system and one that was currently in the hospital.
Then they had to press the notify doctor button on the computer system and wait for the doctor to review and accept it. He would receive a text message so he knew that someone was trying to access harmful drugs, some of which in small doses could be beneficial at
times.
There was a fail–safe system as well, to make sure no one just put in two staff members‘

names. There was a fingerprint scanner set up to prove it was the right person using the access codes to gain entry to the drugs.
This was all to prevent others being wrongfully accused of taking the drugs. Every member of the medical staff had their own unique I.D. code and fingerprint attached to the system, as did the Elders and leadership of the pack. Even with all of that, the pack doctor had to review the access and send a confirmation to the system that it was the right patient. For the door to even be opened.
Then the shelving in that cupboard had a security system, it was weighted and labeled, and all drugs had a set place. The cupboard was restocked by Brent, the pack doctor, and one of the Elders to make sure nothing was in the wrong place.
The cupboard itself would register if something other than what was logged was taken. It would also register if an extra vial of the same drug was taken. This was the same system that Alpha Nicholas had installed in his pack’s hospital to prevent anything like what happened to him, from ever happening again.
Even Nicholas and his unit, the Luna and her unit had to have the doctor’s approval to remove those drugs from the cupboard, which was also the case here in Night Whispers. None could access those drugs without a legitimate reason, regardless of who they were.
She watched the pack doctor, Brent, sit in a chair across from where she was sitting inside his office later in the afternoon, and he looked like he was prepping for surgery, already had scrubs and a scrub hat on. “What happened?” she asked.
“Nothing yet, just prepping for a C–section that I think is going to be needed. Mischa, you’ve been here all day, what can I do for you?” he asked as he looked at the stack of books on the table in front of her.
“Nothing, I’m just reading for knowledge is all,” she stated simply.
“On wolfen reproduction?” he asked, waving a hand at those books. “Do you want to stop your wolfen birth control? Looking to see how long it will take before you can try for a pup?” he asked.
“No and not at all,” she shook her head.
“Then can I help you with anything… specific, Luna?” Brent asked.
“Hmm, not really, like I said, just reading for knowledge and nothing more,” she stated.
“Alright, if I can help you with anything,” he commented and stood up.
“No, it’s all good, just whiling away the time before the next Luna Blessing is to be given.” she
Brent headed for the door but stopped before he opened it. “Luna, if it does happen to be a particular thing you’re looking for or curious about, Dr Dana Reed is one of the Wolfen World’s best specialists in reproductive medicine, including birth control. She’s out in California, resides within the Obsidian Pack.
“I attend medical conferences there two or three times a year. I’m certain I could get you a seat at the next conference if you’d like to speak with her about…” His eyes moved to those books. “Whatever it is you’re looking into.”
That gained her attention. “When and where is the next conference?” she asked.
“They are all held inside the Obsidian Pack. From my understanding, Dana rarely leaves the pack. She is also the lead researcher for many things, including trying to find a cure for the rabid disease. They’ve got a brilliant team out there. As for the next conference…” he walked over and accessed his computer, checked that very thing and stated, “April 15th, you want to go?”
“Yes please.” She stated with a nod, that would get her out of the pack for a few days, and she’d be able to ask that doctor, who was also a researcher, if there was a way to get what she wanted. She’d read many books and journals today and found nothing about what she wanted for herself.
She watched him type something out or maybe purchase another ticket and then Brent stood and smiled at her. All done, we’ll leave on Wolf Airlines on the 14th. The conference is the 15th through 17th, and we’ll return on the 18th. I’ll send you all the details.”
She smiled at him and thanked him; Brent waved it off and headed out of his office once more. That was going to cut it close. Her next heat was in the first week of May, but maybe she might just get what she wanted by then. She could only hope so.
She’d heard of the Obsidian pack, did know it was a medical research facility, it was known to most packs, and she supposed a lot of other packs‘ medical staff attended it for conferences to keep up their professional development hours that she knew was something the human world did require them to attend and have proof of.
She sat there in that office for only a moment before walking over to use Brent’s computer to access the wolfen intranet and look up Dr. Dana Reed. All her skills were listed as well as the research projects she’d been involved in. She’d actually been the one that pioneered tailored wolfen birth control. That was good for Mischa. Maybe her plan could come about.
She smiled to herself and then sat and read about the research Dr Dana Reed had done to

create that tailored birth control. It actually used a sample of the wolf’s blood to tailor that birth control to certain wolfen genetic markers.
Mischa was going to have to see if she could get a meeting outside that conference to discuss what her needs were and if it was at all possible, she wasn’t expecting a miracle drug to be created in the blink of an eye but was going to be willing to give her blood to that doctor in order for her to try and create something, a whole pint of it if she was willing to do
So.
She got up and attended the Luna Blessing for that 3rd pup after it was born and smiled down at him as she held him in her arms. “He’s a healthy little chubby bubby I see.” She chuckled softly, she could see why he was born by C–section.
“Gets it from his father,” Cecilia, the pup’s mother, chuckled right back.
“Yep, he’ll be big and strong Luna,” Eric the pup’s father grinned. “Just like me.” He didn’t take offense to his Mate’s light ribbing of him.
She smiled at them after handing little Stanton back to them and made her way back to the packhouse. She no longer had a legitimate reason to be in the pack hospital. So she returned to her office to do the paperwork for that last pup. She’d attended the other two from a hospital computer.
This was actually a Luna Duty that she not only took pride in attending but enjoyed doing. She liked babies, and though she had been patiently waiting to start her own family with Anthony. Waiting for him to tell her he was ready to have an heir. She no longer wanted that at all.
Christy could give him all the heirs to the pack, she wasn’t about to go and risk any pup she might have to that she–wolf’s nastiness. So, there would simply be no heir to come from her at all. That was unless Selena willed it into happening.
Though she doubted it would happen, with the lack of intimacy between her and Anthony anymore, it was she knew highly unlikely to happen, and she was expecting the moment Christy got out of the cells that Anthony would once again practically forget she existed at
all.
She’d not seen him at all after she’d left the packhouse, though she had felt him tugging on her pack tether at times. But he’d not hunted her down or tried to pull her away from attending to her Luna’s duties.
She registered that last pup and smiled to herself as she documented it in her Luna’s Diary as well, and was about to get up to go and get food. She’d not really been all that hungry all day, but was now, and was just getting up from her desk when Anthony walked into her office and

smiled at her.
“Done for the day?” he asked.
“Yes,” she answered.
“Then let’s have dinner together,” he stated.
“Why?” she asked right back, “It’s been months since we’ve done that,” she commented, knowing that wasn’t a normal thing for them, they could all be seen eating in the dining room him, his unit, their mates, her and Christy, but him and just her having dinner that was not something they really did. Christy would always pull him away from it with something she stated needed his undivided attention.
