Mischa smiled at his silence. Of course, he recalled what happened. He just didn’t want to take responsibility for them never spending time together outside the pack, and was, right now, in here telling her it wasn’t all his fault. When, in fact, he had caused this very thing himself, or Christy had forced his hand into doing it.
“They called Christy your mistress,” Mischa reminded him, “and do you recall how upset she was about that? And how did you resolve that problem?” She stared at him pointedly, and he shifted uncomfortably in that chair over there as he realized he’d just backed himself into a corner and had no way out.
“Yes you, Anthony, told them we were separated, so you could be seen in public dating Christy without her getting any backlash.” She nodded. “So, explain to me how I can be seen out on a date with you, in the human world? When you’re officially dating Christy, you do know that the humans see Christy as your fiancée, right? She wears a very large diamond ring on that left hand of hers, which also means you and I are divorced.”
“No, I never acknowledged we were divorced, and I only did that, the separation thing, so that Christy wouldn’t be seen as a mistress, nothing more. She was very upset about it if you recall,” he pointed out to her what he thought was going to save him.
“Oh, I’m well aware of her reaction to being called a mistress, howled like a baby over it,” she nodded and rolled her eyes. “I stood and watched from the Luna’s doorway as she cried out there in the foyer for all to see, put on a hell of show, blubbering about how I was the only one you recognized.” she shrugged it off, showing him she was uncaring of the act Christy had put on, and it had been an act and nothing more.
“That’s harsh, Mischa.” He sighed. “You wouldn’t like it.”
“Mm, not as harsh as you, announcing our separation to the humans, the following day without telling me about it first, I heard about it from pack chatter, did not believe you’d do
that to me, did not discuss it first, but there it was in black and white for me to read in the human entertainment gossip column when I looked it up.”
She saw actual guilt cross his face. “I recall apologizing for that, it couldn’t be helped. Christy was right there at my side when the reports approached me about having a mistress.”
“Yes, I know, despite all her crying and saying she didn’t want to be labeled as a mistress or a homewrecker, she still went into the city to see you the very next day, and put herself right next to you, to be seen as just that… now didn’t she… before we all got to sit down and discuss it properly because if I recall, she was too upset to do it that afternoon or night, after she blubbered on the floor over it.

“Then, despite that you made the decision that night, that neither Christy nor I would be seen with you out in public until a proper discussion and decision was had; when she was calm. and able to talk without sobbing.
“Yet, she made that decision for all of us, by doing the opposite of what you and I, she, agreed to. The very next day, didn’t she and you, gave her exactly what she wanted… You and I separated looking to divorce, and you and her together as a couple.
“So don’t play the blame game with me, Anthony, I have bowed down to you and her at every single turn, because if I so much as look as if I’m going to complain about anything she puts on the waterworks, and you cave to her, and I get shunted aside for whatever it is she wants, regardless of if it’s unfair to me.” she told him. “20 years of being your Mate, verses 2 years of being hers. How can you not see something is off with her? She must be the eighth world wonder in the sack. Is all I can think for you to be so blind to all she does.” She shook her head with dismay.
“A better fuck than me, huh.” She muttered and saw him blink at her course words.
He was only now just coming to learn how much not only Christy didn’t do inside this pack, but also all the things he gave to her, that he took everything away from Mischa and
practically handed it to that she-wolf on a platter.
“You hate her?” he muttered.
“Yes,” she answered simply, honestly. “Let me let you in on another secret that appears to elude you… she also hates me, just in case her little stunt of her trying to get you to kill me, has gotten past you. One doesn’t do something like that unless there is hatred there, don’t you think… But I have never once interfered with you and her, given way always.
“I’m not some vindictive, vicious person who wants to harm her. I’ll just live my quiet, lonely life, and watch on as Christy fully eclipses me and takes everything I have, until there is nothing left to give. Because you let her, want her to have everything regardless of if it was
once mine.
“So, go on about your life with her when she gets out of the cells. I’m only here because you made me promise I wouldn’t leave you, and, nothing more. I’ll stay in her shadow where she and you want me to be.”
“Mischa it’s…”
“Not like that.” She cut him off by finishing his sentence. “Those words are just like when you say, ‘I’m sorry, or I never meant to, or I promise it’ll never happen.’ Just hollow words and nothing more.” She shook her head. “So, no I won’t be going out into the city with you, because are you going to announce you and Christy are over, and we’re back together, that

what, we never got a divorce were just separated all this time and I let you have a mistress on
the side.
“No, you’re not. So let it go, you’ll only have to retract the statement once more, when Christy gets out of the cells and cries about finding out I’m the only one you recognize. You’ll look
like a fool in the human world. As a man who indeed does have two women, and it’ll ruin the
company’s image,” she stated. “So just leave it.”
She sighed as she looked at him just sitting there, realizing just how badly he had handled everything and this was just the consequences of his own actions. She did wonder if he would now see Christy for what she was; a scheming lying she-wolf out to get rid of her.
“While I have you in this office, Anthony, I have completed the new payroll system for those that work inside the pack. I know we agreed in the beginning to everyone just getting a set wage for their work here inside the pack each week, regardless of the hours they need to work to maintain the pack, easier to keep track of pack funds back then, but now.
“I’ve initiated a clock-in-clock-out system, rolling it to the way the humans pay their workers; an hourly rate, overtime will be paid to those that work harder longer hours and those that don’t meet their required hours will only get paid what is due to them. I need you to sign off
on that,” she stated.
“Alright.” He nodded.
“It’s being set up by the pack tech team this week and will be effective after the next pay period. I’ve e-mailed all those that work here inside the pack about the changes.” She pulled out the file and slid it across the desk to him. “This is what I decided in place of limiting pack cards. You and the unit will be the exception to the system,” she informed him.
She watched him flip through that file and read the pages, “You and Christy should also be
excused from this.”
“Really? After what you just heard about her lack of being in this office and working hours, you still want to pay her for all the time she’s not here in the pack attending her actual job?”
His eyes moved towards her, and they were narrowed on her now. She’d just voiced that she hated Christy, and he was wondering she supposed, if she was targeting her, to give her less pack money to spend. “You are both my Lunas. So, should also be exempt.”
“I’ll also be using the new system, am happy to. You’ll get a report every week to see who, in which departments are working less hours on a regular basis and who is working overtime, or if we’re pulling in others to help other areas out. This will, from an accounting point of view, see which departments within the pack need more or less workers, and who could do with a raise or adjusted working hours.

“Within three months, we’ll see exactly where pack funds are being wasted, and I, as the pack’s accountant, will be able to help resolve this by getting rid of, or reducing unnecessary workers in areas that don’t need it.
“It’ll all be color coded and easy to read, red for unfulfilled hours, black for hours completed as per required, and green for overtime. I, as the pack accountant, made my way through the pack departments over the past two weeks and have spoken to all the affected departments. Their set wage is still the same if they fill their allotted hours,
“but it’s also now divided up into an hourly rate at the same time. They have all agreed to the trialing of the new system for a minimum of six months, all I need is you to sign off on it. No one has voiced an issue with how it should work. And it only directly affects those that solely work here inside the pack itself, and are paid wages directly from the pack funds.” She told
him all the details.
He sat and read through it quietly, not just skimming it, and then he picked up a pen and signed it. “Alright, it seems you’ve put a lot of effort into this.”
“I have worked overtime nearly every day,” she nodded. “I even spent time talking to the pack’s lawyers to have them draw that up properly.” She told him, “It’s all legal and binding the moment you sign it.”
“Alpha Nicholas drew this up?” he asked right back and looked at her with narrowed eyes. It seems he was still a little irked by her and Alpha Nicholas’ friendship.
“Not personally, no, his legal team, you can see its Gail Western’s name there on the document.” She commented and saw him actually flip through to the page with the lawyer’s
name on it once more.
Then he handed it back to her. “So, what I just heard, was that, on top of all your normal duties, you fit this in as well?”
“I did.” She nodded as she checked his signature and the date, and then signed hers right there where it was indicated for her to do.
