CH 73
She’d slept late the following day and had eaten breakfast in her suite, before going downstairs. It was nearly 11am and as she stepped into the foyer, Anthony and Christy were walking in through the front doors of the packhouse, likely Christy had just been released from the pack hospital.
She greeted them. “It’s good to see you’re up and about, all healed from your fall into the canyon.” Mischa stated, and they both turned and looked at her. Once again, he’d not known she was right there. He and his beast could only smell Christy, she realized when he was that close to them together, Christy was all–consuming. He’d blinked at seeing her walking towards them.
She supposed that Christy’s scent had now also eclipsed her for him and his beast. It was, she thought, as she’d guessed. Christy had bedded Anthony all over that Alpha Suite, and anywhere she and he might have to use her scent to eclipse her life. To the point that she supposed her scent was less to him than Christy’s.
“Are you only now just coming to work, two hours late, Mischa?” Christy asked.
“Yes I am.” Mischa nodded, as she realized that she–wolf was keeping track of her and her whereabouts. Otherwise, how could she know she’d not been at work for the past two hours? She didn’t know if that was something she should be worried about.
“You’ll have to make up for it then,” Christy stated with a smugness to her voice and in her smile, as if she’d won something. “You can do it tomorrow after lunch.” Though she missed Anthony’s frown down at her words. They were uncalled–for and Anthony knew it. Christy only had to make up for it to prove she wasn’t just ditching her lessons on purpose, because Anthony had gotten the feeling she had been and hadn’t liked it. As for tomorrow after lunch? That would be Mischa’s supposed time with Anthony.
Mischa chuckled softly. “Oh, my dear, dear Christy, I think you’d be very much mistaken about
that.”
“If I have to make up for my time off, then so do you,” Christy stated, matter–of–factly.
“Hmm, no I don’t. I’m not in… bleated training, am fully trained and actually sit in the Luna’s office, I attend my hours. You have to make up for things because you, Christy… Have been here for two years and know very little about your role and job, refused to learn it.” Mischa smiled. She did love it when that girl walked herself right into it. “You should be able to handle all aspects of being a Luna by now… But… Are still a Luna in training, because…” she trailed off. “You didn’t want to learn your role. Something I understand and actually do.”
Claim
“You didn’t teach me properly.” Christy bit out.
“Oh, didn’t I… Or did you just get up and leave every time Anthony walked by, go into the city so often that you weren’t here to learn them.” Mischa smiled at her. “You did sign your name to those laws and rules to say you knew them, but do you know them? Did I force your hand to sign them? Or did you do that just so Anthony would see it and think you’d learned them?”
she smiled.
Christy couldn’t win this game she’d just started, and the look on her face now said it all. She was unhappy that Mischa was suddenly turning it back on her and reminding Anthony of what she’d done. The lie she’d told to get it by him that she’d in fact not learned anything, but signed it all off as if she had learned it all.
“I believe I heard Debbie state that you told not only her but Anthony, that you didn’t need to be tested about your duties, you knew what they were…” she sipped the coffee in her hand and then added, “Only to fail the test miserably when Anthony insisted you sit it,
“So, did I, Luna Order you to sign those off, force your hand to do so?” she asked. “Or did you do that all on your own to… Deceive everyone into thinking you’d learned when you hadn’t bothered to even try?” she put to her.
She saw anger flare in Christy as she reminded Anthony in full, that he was all consumed with a Luna that couldn’t do the job, because she clearly didn’t want to learn the job. Christy’s fists balled at her sides and Mischa raised an eyebrow, “So about my not teaching you properly? Should I have the packs tech team go through all the Luna’s office footage for the past two years and see if I did teach you properly?
“Or if you just didn’t want to learn, left the office all the time and didn’t attend the lessons, you’re now being forced to attend due to your own lack of knowledge?” she asked only to have Christy not answer the question once more, she couldn’t back up what she’d said about not being taught properly, but Mischa could prove it all.
“I don’t know why you’re coming at me, all angry this morning, Christy,” she sighed and shook her head. “When I was simply asking you how you are… I guess, you don’t like me much, do
you.”
That had Anthony’s eyes move right towards her; there were pack members walking around, and a few were now standing listening to them have words, words he was actively staying out of because if he stood up for Christy when Mischa was pointing out facts, he’d only be seen as again only wanting to take Christy’s side of things.
He understood what she was doing though, and she knew it, from the annoyed and exasperated expression on his face; pointing out Christy was trying to cause trouble between herself and himself before pack members. Because all she’d done was ask how Christy was,
Clarm
and that she–wolf had suddenly turned on her for no reason, when a simple “I’m alright now,” would have sufficed for an answer.
Her asking how she was doing was also something that was actually expected of a Luna to do; ask after injured pack members. “Enough Christy, you don’t speak to Mischa like that. Your tone and topic is uncalled–for.” He chastised Christy right there before others. “My apologies, Mischa.”
She shrugged it off like it was nothing. “I guess she must still have residual pain, so speaking out of turn with uncalled–for words, filled with anger is all this is,” she stated.
She saw more anger come from Christy as the pack members muttered about why was Christy angry with Mischa, asking if she was alright. Was this just like what she’d done to warrant getting punished that first time, getting out of the hospital and turning on Mischa? She saw Christy suddenly realize just what she’d done and how the pack saw it and turn eyes
to them.
“It’s not like that, I just thought she’d have to make up hours like I did. With that new clock in clock out system… Thought it would interfere with her and Anthony’s time together, I don’t want that.” Christy told them, “Please don’t get me wrong.”
Mischa nearly laughed as she watched that girl back peddle, then she opted to answer her original question, seeing as she’d brought it up once more, “Just to let you know, Christy, about my working hours… I’m already on overtime, so no, I don’t need to make up hours. I’m sitting on about 48 hours this week,” she informed her.
She saw more annoyance on Christy’s face and smiled. “Or I could choose to just not work past my 40 hours.” She offered. “Who do you think will have to pick up my slack?” She sipped her coffee. “Hmm, I think that would be the other Luna to the pack, you when your training is
over.”
This girl was never going to beat her, “I could work a three and half day week most weeks, and sometimes just a three–day week, and still get my allotted 40 hours in. I am the reigning Luna and the Pack Accountant as well. I’m always busy with work. 12 to 14–hour days, on average, is what I work to your what, 7–hour days?
“Do you want to switch places? See if you can handle working as much as I do? I work more hours than Anthony himself does, due to having two defined jobs within this pack?” She offered her a direct challenge. The girl wouldn’t last a day in Mischa’s shoes, let alone a
week.
“I do a full 8–hour day, don’t diminish what I do,” Christy muttered as she realized she wasn’t going to beat Mischa at who actually worked harder inside this pack.
Claim
Again, Mischa smiled. “You appear to be very petty right now, Christy. Just so you know, you might have to rein that in, because it’s actually 7 hours a day, you get a 30–minute lunch break and two 15–minute breaks for morning and afternoon tea… Yes, I can be just as petty as you. Would you like that, I’ll let you be my role model and take my cues from you,” she stated and sipped her coffee once more, uncaring of how she sounded right now, but yes, she could be
petty too.
Anthony looked annoyed to her, and she smiled at him, would make her point right now.” Sorry, I guess I’m a bit grumpy, you know, being here inside the pack all the time, never leaving it,” she used Christy’s own words. “Though I kind of feel like you and Christy keep me inside the pack on purpose. So, none of the humans will see me with you, and upset Christy, if where photographed together… even though we are Mates.”
“You went out to that gala last night.” Christy shot right at her. “I didn’t stop you.” She turned to Anthony. “I never stop her from going out in the human world, even offered for all of us to go to that gala last night.”
Mischa smiled now, so Christy really didn’t like it when she used her own words against her, and yes, she had offered that, but only after Anthony put his foot down on she wasn’t allowed to go, and only so she’d be seen on Anthony’s arm, right in front of others with Mischa watching on from the sideline. Effectively putting her in her place out in the human world and nothing more.
She rolled her eyes at hearing Christy’s words, ‘No, you just made sure to stop Anthony from going and being seen with me out in the human world, altogether‘ Mischa thought absently.” Hmm, I did go. Though… where was my Mate for that? Nowhere near me, we were unseen by the humans together.” She pushed her agenda once more, that again they weren’t seen in the human world just to not upset Christy.
“That’s not fair. I was injured and Anthony opted to be at my side.” Christy shook her head. “I didn’t ask him to stay with me.”
“No, you didn’t,” Mischa nodded. “He chose to; after all his insistence on my going to that gala, with him. Something I told him he should do with you, but he outright refused to do because he wanted a night out in public with me, is what he stated… told you that afternoon, I was going, and you were not, end of story. Yet… he never went in the end, now did he. Stayed here with you,” she pointed out.
