Anthony was now more than annoyed at this lunch with her, but he’d been the one to intrude on her day outside the pack. Then, of course, Christy, true to form, had interloped into it as well. So she, being the good little ex–wife of the trio, would play her hand. The very one those two had given her, only now the gloves were off.
His hand landed on her arm. “Mischa, that is enough from you.” Anthony bit out at her.
She removed his hand in not so nice a fashion and laughed. “Oh, is it?” she shot right back. And just who are you to tell me what to do in this world?” She reminded him of just where they were, the human world, not inside the pack.
“I’m your ex–wife now. Not your wife, you can boss around or make demands of. If you, Mr Trenery, don’t like my attitude, then get up from my table, which you imposed yourself upon and walk away.” She told him, “You, as my ex–husband, have no right or say in how I live my life anymore, lost that…” she turned and looked right at Christy “When you left me for her.”
she smiled.
”
“I did not invite you to this lunch, you invited yourself to sit down. So…” Mischa stated for Christy to hear that he’d come to her, not the other way around. She turned back to him, “If you don’t like how your ex–wife and fiancée don’t get along, then I suggest you don’t put us in a room together. Let alone out here in full view of the public.” She chuckled softly at his expression as he realized he couldn’t do or say anything to her, had no right to out here in the
human world.
She’d not stated anything that was a lie either. “Ex’s rarely, if ever, get along with their replacements. I’m no different to any other ex–wife whose husband went out and got himself an 18–year–old to fuck, leaving his loyal wife of 20 years who helped him build his empire.” She tipped her glass to him and then sipped it.
She’d just effectively told everyone in this room that, yes, Christy was his mistress and he’d left Mischa for her. He really should know better by now than to chastise her, and here in public, where he couldn’t defend himself as he could inside the pack, that was just icing on
the cake for her.
“The door is over there,” she waved a hand in the direction of it. “We may still work together, but you don’t, nor does she, need to put your relationship in face, every time she sees you and I interacting,” she once again reminded him it was Christy that started this battle, here in this restaurant where she was now making a public scene, uncaring of who was in here and watching on.
“I think I was more than amicable with you about the divorce, and my stepping aside for her

and your engagement to go public. I didn’t cause you a single ounce of trouble for the public to see, and never once tried to be seen in public with you in the lead up to the divorce, to make it difficult for you, and have to out what was going on before everyone in this…
“Oh, I don’t know how do I put it… uncomfortable relationship we have. Was ready for it to become public knowledge, that you and I were divorcing so you could be seen with your what … Mistress. Who didn’t like being called a mistress, Hmm, that would be her who did that.” She sipped her drink once more.
He was glaring at her now and shot down the mind–link ‘Stop this now,
‘No, we’re in the human world and out here, I’m just your ex–wife, not your wife. You can’t control what I say out here. You can rant and rave all you like inside the pack, but out here, unless, of course, you want everyone to go back to thinking Christy is just a mistress wearing a diamond, which I know she bought herself and passes off as you gave to her. To give the humans the impression she is your fiancée.‘
He stood up from his seat at the table and snapped, “I’m leaving.” And walked away from the table in long angry strides.
Mischa smiled to herself a little more when he stopped and told the maître d‘ he’d pay for all their meals, swiped his card and banged out of the restaurant. She turned her eyes to Christy’s table. They were all now looking at him as he left the restaurant without stopping to talk with Christy or defend her even.
“Harsh Mischa.” Kendrick huffed a little.
She shrugged it off. “Ex–wife remember. What did he think would happen sitting down at my table? Did he expect me to be all nice when he puts his other woman in my face like that? Those days are over, Kendrick.” She told him.
Then she turned her eyes back to Christy. “The gloves are off, I’m done playing nice and no longer care whose reputation is ruined anymore. Something I protected for all involved, by not crying about it in public. Those days are gone now. I no longer care to save face for Anthony or Christy.
“If the other woman, who got everything she wanted already, still insists on coming at me out here in public, she’d better be prepared for the fallout and humiliation that will come her way. I won’t hold back out here, regardless of who’s around to hear it,” she smiled, letting Christy know exactly how it was going to be from now on.
She saw real anger touch Christy’s face at hearing her words, but it was her own fault if that she–wolf hadn’t turned up here with all her friends trying to put her in her place, none of this would be happening at all.

She looked at Kendrick, and he shook his head. Neither he nor Dereck got up to leave the table. They were still eating their lunch and spending time with their Mates. They wouldn’t be so rude as to get up and leave to go after their cranky Alpha that had brought this upon himself. Anthony could do it seeing as they were out in the human world, and they were ex–husband and wife to the surrounding humans.
“You should probably remind Anthony it’s Christy he should have meals with in the future. I can handle being on my own all the time,” she stated and finished the rest of her lunch.
She and the girls headed back to the pack after the meal and spent the rest of the afternoon in her office working. Anthony walked into her office when he returned to the pack and stood there staring at her. She raised an eyebrow at him as she waited for the inevitable ranting and raving about embarrassing him or insulting him and Christy in that restaurant.
“I’ve spoken to Christy about what she did today; that being turning up when I’m with you and interrupting us having a meal, like she used to always do. That I do not want her returning to her old ways, that would see you and I become less bonded as was previously done.
“That I believe she incited you on purpose into it, and seeing as we were out in the human world you did nothing wrong, played the human ex–wife card was all because she herself was
out with humans.
“That I believe it was her that put you in this position, and yes, I thought it was overly aggressive, but wolves are just that, aggressive creatures. If she is going to provoke you on purpose, then she has to be able to deal with the ramifications of her own actions.
“That I will not be reprimanding you for something she started, by turning up without an invitation and displaying our bond in front of you. In which, I felt, was done by her on purpose, “Anthony stated.
“Thanks.” Mischa nodded.
“I, however, would prefer that you do not ever do this again.” He went on, I don’t like being between the two of you. I don’t know who I’m supposed to defend in moments like that, and it puts me in a tough situation.”
“Did you also tell Christy that very thing?” Mischa asked.
“Yes, I did.” He stated, “She was upset, you had lunch with me is all.”
“Hmm, was she?” She didn’t look upset to me.” Mischa shrugged, “And why at me? You were the one that joined me, not me asking to spend time with you. I even made sure to remind you of that very thing, it was a Christy day, before I left the pack. At the restaurant.”
He nodded. “It was my fault, not yours, but you could have held your tongue.” He muttered.

“Hmm.” She leaned back in her chair. “Are you sure you’re not here to reprimand me?” she asked because she thought he was, just doing it politely.
“I’m not.” he stated firmly.
“Yet you just told me not to do it again. I put you in a tough situation, and to in future hold my tongue. That’s just a polite way of wording a reprimand. I do it all the time with the teens, politely wording things so they don’t seem so harsh.” She shook her head. “I’m skilled at this very thing. So yes, you are here to reprimand me,” she told him how she felt.
He was frowning down at her now. “Nothing I ask of you is going to be taken by you in any other way, I see.”
She shrugged it off, “Indifferent remember. I can’t be swayed by the Mate Bond that barely
exists between us.”
“You can’t use that excuse forever, Mischa, we are Mates, and we need to at least be able to try and work through this. As that research article states, we have to want to work it out for it
to be able to be rebuilt.”
“Hmm, it did say that,” she admitted. “But I’ve also already told you I’d accept our going separate ways, and more than once now.”
“I don’t want to hear it,” he told her. “I understand I hurt you, I know that, and I am willing to be patient and wait for us to come back together. I also understand it will in fact take quite a long time, and could be years before that happens. I’m just trying to keep the peace as well.
“As long as I don’t give up, we will come back together. That is what the research states, that your attitude of turning things on me is just a by product of what happened, and I have to let you do this to show you I care and will not abandon you because of it.
“I won’t be giving up on our mate bond just because you’re indifferent to me now. I understand you need to also see this to relearn to trust me, that I do actually mean I am sorry about what happened, that I won’t let it happen again. I am going to be here always, for you if and when you need me,
“That no matter how much you try to push me away, and try and get me to reject you, proving I’ll abandon you once more. I will not, I will show you I love you and care for you, by not getting angry about your trying to keep that distance between us. By being steadfastly by your side and waiting for you.
“That is what the research says I need to do, regardless of how much I don’t like it, or it hurts me to feel that indifference. It is simply a defensive mechanism on your part and, with time, you’ll see the truth, and we’ll come back together,” he told her and then turned and walked from her office.

‘Defense mechanism?‘ Laud snorted ‘We’re well past that.’
‘We are. He’s in complete denial is all.‘ Mischa agreed.

‘Thinks everything is about that heat he abandoned us to.‘ Laud murmured, ‘not considered anything before it.‘
‘Agreed.‘ Mischa nodded.
Though with all that he’d just stated, he’d pretty much given her a free pass to do and say whatever she wanted too. That he wouldn’t get mad about it; that was interesting to her.
‘Just trying to placate is all. Don’t believe that, Laud told her. ‘Never keeps his word.‘
