The Ex-Con Who Conquered the World novel Chapter 77

Jorge stood frozen, his face ashen. He knew there was nothing left to say. Defeated, he turned and walked away.

Britton's face was pale. He realized—in this single moment—the Jensen family was finished.

He spun around, his eyes locking onto Christy with pure hatred. His face twisted as he lunged at her. "This is your fault! You useless woman! You did this!"

Screaming, he laid into her with fists and feet.

Stefan walked over. His face was calm, his voice even. "Didn't you say I was going back to prison?" He paused. "I told you—once this blew up, there'd be no taking it back. Remember this lesson. When you try to crush people with power, you end up crushing yourself."

Britton's face contorted—humiliation, rage, defeat all fighting for space. But he kept his head down. Said nothing.

He knew now. He'd picked a fight with someone way above his weight class.

There was nothing left for him here. He turned and slunk away.

Christy was left bruised and bloody, sobbing quietly. Regret ate at her—but there was no undoing any of it.

"Christy." Megan's voice was ice. "You're fired too. Get out."

Then Megan turned to Stefan, and her expression transformed. A smile bloomed—beautiful, warm, with just enough edge to make a man wonder.

"Mr. Bryant." Her voice softened. "Are you satisfied with how this was handled?"

Stefan smiled back, "Ms. Davis, you handled everything fairly. No one could argue with that. Under your leadership, I'm sure the Marevia Consortium will only get stronger."

As he spoke, he found himself studying her again.

Moments ago, she'd been all business—cold, ruthless, almost inhuman in her efficiency. Now? Now she was warmth and charm itself. Every gesture carried that certain something. That unmistakable appeal of a woman who'd lived enough to know exactly who she was.

It was like watching different facets of the same diamond catch the light. And that particular facet? The one with those slightly uptilted eyes that seemed to promise things? That one was dangerous.

"You have that much faith in me, Mr. Bryant?" Megan's eyes sparkled as she held his gaze.

"Absolutely." Stefan's voice was perfectly serious. "My judgment's never wrong."

Megan laughed softly, "I'll hold you to that."
