The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 1577

"Why couldn't you have exposed Joshua at any other time? Why did it have to be now, when Star needed him the most? Even if you couldn't help her, you shouldn't have sabotaged her!"

Haynes knew he was in the wrong and didn't try to argue. "I'm sorry."

Afterward, he had thought about it carefully. The whole situation reeked of something strange. How could Rachel, who had been missing for so long, suddenly reappear and conveniently fall into Foreman's hands? It was likely that this Rachel was a tool, deliberately used to drive a wedge between Stella and Joshua. The goal was to get Joshua out of the picture, leaving Stella isolated.

What Haynes hadn't expected was for Joshua to admit to it so readily. He had assumed Joshua would at least try to explain his side of the story or tell Stella he'd been deceived by Rachel. But he didn't. From beginning to end, he never offered a single word of defense for himself. As a result, all the evidence Foreman had prepared against him went unused.

Seeing his sincere apology and that he'd rushed over in the middle of the night, Abby's expression softened slightly. "Star's been in a bad mood lately. When you have time, bring Keen over. We don't have anything scheduled for a while, so we'll be taking some time off."

Haynes agreed without hesitation. "Okay, I'll arrange it right away."

Two days later, Stella was finally fully awake. She'd come around a few times before, but her mind had been too foggy to hold on to much. She only remembered Abby being beside her, and having seen Neville and Haynes at some point.

This time when she woke up, the first person she saw was Keen O'Brien. He was overjoyed to see her awake. "Mom, you're finally awake! You've been asleep for days, I was so worried!"

Stella's gaze shifted. "Keen, why are you here?"

"I heard you were sick, so I came to see you," Keen said. "How are you feeling now? Are you better?"

Stella nodded weakly. "Yes. Where's Abby?"

"Abby's outside on the phone. I'll go get her."
