Tomorrow would mark the ninth year of marriage between Gabriel and Isla Wyndham. Just a few hours to go.
And already, messages, calls, and congratulatory wishes were pouring in from every direction-friends, family, business associates, and people who admired their tove story from afar. Their union was not just a marriage; it was a legend to many.
Yet, in the middle of all the excitement, Isla sat far away from celebration:
She was seated at the head of a long polished table inside one of Aurelia Crest City’s executive boardrooms. Around her sat powerful businessmen from different parts of the world-investors, partners, and representatives-each with their own opinions, expectations, and concerns.
The meeting had dragged on far longer than expected.
The discussion revolved around the new policies recently introduced by Aurelia Crest City, policies that was designed to protect the city’s future while maintaining its luxury and exclusivity. Unfortunately, not everyone around the table shared the same understanding.
So, disagreement arose, documents were shuffled.
Different accents clashed as misunderstandings piled on top of each other.Isla sat quietly, her posture was calm, and composed, her. fingers resting lightly on the table. She had already instructed the company’s legal team to prepare all necessary documents ahead of time, anticipating resistance.
And now that the investors had gone through them, disagreements had begun to surface. Still, Isla did not speak.
She allowed the lawyers to handle the legal explanations, clarifications, and counterarguments. As far as she was concerned, the policies were firm. They were necessary.
And they were not up for reckless compromise.
Her mind, however, was far from the boardroom.
It drifted—once again—to Gabriel. To the surprise he had stubbornly refused to tell her about.
Her luggage had already been fully packed, neatly arranged alongside Gabriel’s. She knew he had something planned. She could feel it in every of his strange looks. In all of his carefully dodged questions, and every playful refusal.
Yet, no matter how hard she tried to frustrate him into revealing even the smallest hint, Gabriel always found a way to escape.
Now, she had no choice but to wait.
Isla glanced around the room. The arguments showed nosign of settling anytime soon. She checked her wristwatsh:
They were already past closing hours. So her patience snapped immediately. She shook her head slightly and rose to her feet.
The room fell silent instantly.
Every eye turned toward her.
“Gentlemen,” Isla said calmly, her voice firm and polite, ” I’m afraid we’ll have to postpone this meeting until next week.”
The murmurs of the gentlemen rippled through the room.
“My secretary will contact you with available dates once confirm a suitable time,” she continued. “For now, we’ll end the meeting here.”
No one dared to object to her.
“If that will be all,” Isla concluded, “this meeting is adjourned. Good night.”
Her secretary stepped forward immediately, gathering Isla’s documents and personal items from the table. Isla walked out without another word, her heels echoing softly against the marble floor.
Her two bodyguards, Jonny and Chris, followed closely behind her as she exited the boardroom, leaving the investors and legal team behind.***
By the time Isla arrived home, the mansion felt unusually quiet. The children had already been taken to her parents’ house for one week.
She went straight to the bathroom and took a long shower, letting the warm water wash away the tension clinging to her shoulders. When she finally stepped out, wrapped in a towel, she found Gabriel walking into the bedroom.
He looked tired.
Yet, undeniably handsome.
His suit jacket was gone, his sleeves slightly rolled up, his tie loosened. The exhaustion on his face only made him look more handsome.
“Hey, love,” Gabriel greeted softly.
“Hi,” Isla replied, studying him. “You look tired.”
He chuckled a little, already undoing his tie. “Long day.”
“Another,” she demanded.
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Interesting,” he murmured.
Isla shot him a glare and downed the refill just as fast, returning to her food as if nothing happened.
Gabriel stopped eating now. His attention was fully on her. But Isla avoided his gaze.
Then, suddenly, something felt wrong. Her vision blurted, causing the room to spin in her vision.
She blinked hard, but it only got worse. She could swear she was seeing three Gabriels sitting across from her.
“Happy anniversary, my love,” Gabriel said with a smirk.
Isla tried to speak. But her body gave up first. She slumped forward onto the table.
Gabriel stood up immediately, walked around the table, and gently lifted her into his arms.
“Stone,” he ordered calmly, “get our luggage.”
The maids rushed to obey and followed the head of security to Gabriel and Isla’s bedroom.
Gabriel stepped into the elevator, pressed the rooftop button, and held Isla securely as the doors closed.
On the helipad, a helicopter was already waiting.
He carried her inside, fastened her seatbelt carefully, and made sure she was comfortable.
Ista was already fast asleep, softly snoring. Gabriel watched her for a moment, and he smiled.
He had slipped a mild sleeping pill into the wine, knowing exactly how she would react. And she had walked straight into his trap.
“The best anniversary,” he murmured, smiling down at her, “my love.”
