The eerie Shadow Energy of the Underworld was somewhat illuminated by the appearance of this Golden Light.
Although their Divine Souls had drifted through the chaotic currents of time and space for what seemed like many rounds, to them it was merely the blink of an eye.
Samuel Chalmers visibly relaxed upon seeing Scarlett Jennings unharmed.
"Are you okay?"
Scarlett shook her head, "What about you?"
Samuel was naturally fine, too.
Ivan listened silently and eventually couldn’t resist interrupting, "Whatever you have to say, do it after you return."
Is the Underworld really a place for intimate conversations?
The atmosphere was clearly off.
Ivan didn’t feel there was anything wrong with interrupting the couple’s reunion and just turned to lead them towards where the Sage Tree was located.
Scarlett and Samuel exchanged a glance and followed without speaking.
Ivan led the way, and because they had an Underworld Pass to clear the way, the Ghost Messengers all stepped aside as they passed.
Scarlett watched as Ivan led them past the Homeward Gaze Pavilion and along the Underworld Road, lined with fully bloomed amaranth flowers, as if he was strolling leisurely through his own garden.
If she weren’t certain this was indeed the Ivan they knew, Scarlett might have wondered if he intended to lead them down the Reincarnation Path, sending them directly to reincarnation.
She couldn’t help but wonder again about Ivan’s relationship with the Underworld.
To say he’s familiar, could it be that Ivan had established some cooperative relationship with the Underworld hundreds of years ago?
Ivan had no intention of explaining and quickly led them to the edge of the River of Oblivion.
He wasn’t deliberately taking them on a "tour" of the Underworld; this was simply the necessary route to get to the Sage Tree’s location.
He was eager to deliver them to their destination as soon as possible; after all, he didn’t want to linger in the Underworld too long and attract the attention of a meddlesome Lord Yama.
As it is often said, fear invites the very thing one dreads.
The three of them had just reached the bank of the River of Oblivion when they saw, from a distance, a solitary boat docked along the shore, an ancient blue lamp hanging from its prow, faintly reflecting the shadow of the river.
However, it wasn’t this solitary boat that made them pause but rather a tall, slender figure standing by the shore.
A familiar dark ancient garment, exuding a terrifying aura, and a menacing Ghost Energy.
It was unmistakably the Lord Yama who had once trapped Scarlett in another Ghost Market.
Scarlett did not believe this Lord Yama was standing here just to admire the scenery of the River of Oblivion, and her gaze instinctively turned to Ivan.
It felt as if this visit was specifically for Ivan.
Indeed, Lord Yama turned to face them, showing no surprise at their arrival as if he had been expecting them, his stern eyes cold and indifferent,
"Get on the boat, I’ll take you across."
It was clear Ivan hadn’t specifically sought Lord Yama to lead them; he evidently knew their purpose and came in person.
Ivan, hearing him speak, also didn’t hesitate and directly stepped forward, boarding the boat right past him.
The small flat boat was only big enough to accommodate four people at its limit.
Ivan led Scarlett and Samuel to sit down on the boat, then looked up at the last one to board, Lord Yama,
"You row."
Lord Yama said nothing, silently picking up the pole; as he dipped it into the River of Oblivion, a gentle push sent the boat drifting slowly into the river.
None of the four onboard were talkative, and no one spoke. Not even a whisper of water could be heard from the River of Oblivion, making the atmosphere eerily silent.
Fortunately, this eerie atmosphere was finally broken as Lord Yama rowed the boat to the very heart of the Oblivion River, where the Sage Tree was located.
Before them stood a tree that seemed to connect to the Underworld right in the midst of the vast River of Oblivion.
Ivan said, "This is the Sage Tree of the Underworld."
Scarlett was a little surprised, as Ivan had described, the Underworld had only a branch of the Sage Tree, yet this tree before them, if only a branch, seemed immense.
Without giving her time to dwell on her curiosity, Ivan stepped onto the surface roots of the Sage Tree that emerged from the river, then motioned to Lord Yama,
