Chapter 515 They Move In
More and more Crackshell Crabs were released until well over 100 of them filled the bottom of the pit.

Realizing they were trapped, the crabs quickly grew restless. Some began digging into the ground while others repeatedly slammed themselves against the energy barrier.
Ripples of pale blue spread across the impact points, but the barrier itself remained completely unmoved.
The workers watching nearby felt their scalps go numb.
The ferocity of those Crackshell Crabs far exceeded their expectations. Several of them ever attempted to Sever the energy flow of the confinement circle with their pincers. If Elizabeth hadn’t set up a high–lever circle, the creatures might actually have found a weakness.
“Don’t worry. They can’t escape,” Elizabeth said calmly. “Start filling the pit now. Six feet deep first.”
The workers snapped back to their senses and began operating transport vehicles to dump in the prepared soil.
That wasn’t ordinary dirt. It was a specially formulated crab substrate Elizabeth had mixed herself.
It was blended with river sand, clay, and specialized minerals, so it could both retain moisture and support the crackshell Crabs‘ tunneling habits.
As the soil poured down, the crabs instinctively began digging.
Their pincers were astonishingly efficient excavation tools. Soon, burrows had already appeared all across the pit floor.
As more soil continued to fill the pit, the crabs gradually adapted to their new environment and began establishing territories throughout their forming underground city.
Elizabeth carefully observed their behavior.
Crackshell Crabs were highly social crustaceans. They built complex tunnel systems and maintained clearly defined social hierarchies.
The leader was typically the strongest individual with the darkest shell coloration.
It occupied the best territory and enjoyed priority access to both food and mating rights.

“That’s enough. Add water now,” Elizabeth ordered once the soil reached a depth of six feet.
A canal system had already been connected to the pit walls, allowing excess spiritual water from the spirit fields to flow inside.
The spiritual water contained faint traces of spiritual energy that promoted the Crackshell Crabs‘ growth, strengthened their shell and improved the flavor of their meat.
Clear streams of water flowed through the pipes and gradually spread across the soil.
Crackshell Crabs weren’t afraid of water. On the contrary, they required a certain depth to keep their gills moist.
But they also needed exposed land areas for breathing and sunbathing. That was why Elizabeth controlled the water level at roughly 12 feet, leaving around three feet of soil exposed above the surface to form an artificial tidal flat.

As the water leve! slowly rose, the crabs began adapting to the aquatic environment.

Some swam through the water, their pincers slicing ripples across the surface. Other climbed onto the exposed mounds of earth and raised themselves upright to enjoy the air.
“Oh my God, they actually look like they’re enjoying themselves in there.” one young worker blurted out:
They’d been desperately trying to escape, and now they already seemed completely settled in. The turnaround was ridiculously fast.
Adam laughed. “What’s so strange about that? Plenty of people would kill to buy water from our farm. Looks like even these crabs know the good stuff when they see it.”
Elizabeth merely smiled without saying anything.
Of course, it was because of the water.
No living creature could resist water infused with spiritual energy.
Once the water reached the planned level, Elizabeth shut off the inlet.
Now, spread before everyone’s eyes, was a two–acre artificial pond filled with crystal–clear water.
Several small islands of varying sizes stood in the middle of the pond.
Those were the exposed mounds of soil meant for the Crackshell Crabs to rest, breathe, and bask in the sun.
Beneath the water, faint openings to the crabs‘ tunnels could already be seen, some releasing tiny streams of bubbles.
The Crackshell Crabs had fully accepted their new home and were already exploring the pond.
Some dove underwater to continue digging. Others strolled through the shallow water, holding their pincers in front of themselve as though thoroughly enjoying life.
The largest leader crab occupied the biggest mound of earth, gazing down imperiously upon its subjects.
“Alright, the pond itself is basically finished, but there’s still follow–up work,” Elizabeth told Adam. “Install monitoring equipment around the pond so we can observe the crabs‘ condition at all times.”
