Elizabeth listened to Desmond, and the corner of her mouth lifted slightly. There wasn’t a hint of warmth
in that smile.
“Perfect,” she said. Her voice wasn’t loud, but it carried clearly through the quiet warehouse. “Because I’m not letting this go either.”
Desmond froze for a second and looked up at her.
Elizabeth walked to the middle of the warehouse and looked at the detained Fifth Military personnel. She spoke as calmly as if she were talking about everyday business.
“Desmond. pass
the word. Keep a close watch on them. No one takes them without my permission.“/She turned to face him. “And tell the Fifth Military that if they want their people back, they can come negotiate compensation. If the compensation isn’t good enough, they can forget about taking anyone home.”
Desmond was silent for two seconds before nodding. “Understood.”
He turned and went to carry out the orders.
Elizabeth stayed in the warehouse, looking at Evander’s pale, defeated face without saying another word.
Back in the cultivation world, Elizabeth had faced plenty of tough opponents.
She had never been afraid.
Anyone foolish enough to come after her got dealt with.
One at a time. Or two at once.
The news spread even faster than Elizabeth expected.
By that evening, the Fifth Military contacted her.
The caller was the deputy director of the Fifth Military Logistics Department, Caspian Harlow. He held the rank of major general.
He sat straight in front of the holographic screen, his uniform perfectly pressed and his expression stern But there was an unmistakable air of superiority in his eyes.
“Ms. Schofield,” Caspian said. His voice was calm, carrying the pressure of someone used to being in charge. “Your people have detained six active–duty officers from the Fifth Military. I’d like a reasonable explanation.”
Elizabeth sat behind her desk with a cup of coffee that Ella had just made for her. She looked completely relaxed, as if she were chatting with an old friend.
General Harlow, your people poisoned my farm and were caught in the act. Then they tried to use force.

and my defense system took them down. I have witnesses and physical evidence. I haven’t even asked you for an explanation yet, and you’re questioning me first?”
Caspian’s expression changed ever so slightly.
The woman sitting across from him showed not the slightest fear or hesitation for his rank.
“Ms. Schofield, we will investigate those officers internally. However, you have no authority to detain them The kingdom law clearly states that civilians can’t hold active–duty military personnel. What you’re doing is against the law.”
Elizabeth took a sip of coffee and replied calmly, “General Harlow, kingdom law also clearly states that active–duty military personnel may not interfere with or damage civilian property while carrying out their duties. Poisoning my farm and using force are even more serious violations. Your people broke the law. As the owner of this farm, it’s my responsibility to protect my property and my employees. The observers from the other military departments were all there. They can testify.”
She set down her cup and looked at Caspian through the holographic screen. “Or should I invite the observers from the First, Second, and Third Military over? We can all sit down together and discuss this.”
Caspian frowned.
After a moment of silence, his tone softened.
“Ms. Schofield, we admit that a few individuals acted improperly. But we’d like to handle this matter internally instead of making it bigger than it needs to be. Hand them over to us, and we promise they’ll be dealt with seriously.”
Elizabeth shook her head.
She said, “It doesn’t matter to me how you handle them after they go back. Demotion, confinement, or let them off with nothing more than a written apology–I don’t care.”
Her voice stayed calm, but every word was sharp. “What matters to me is that your people caused real damage to my farm. That means I expect real compensation. Otherwise, don’t expect to get your people
back.”
Caspian finally lost his composure.
“Ms. Schofield! Don’t push this too far! The Fifth Military isn’t something you can bargain with!”
Elizabeth smiled.
It was a bright smile, but it sent a chill down his spine.
“If that’s your attitude, then there’s nothing left to discuss. Go find someone who can negotiate with me.”
She reached out to end the call.
“Wait!” Caspian called out quickly.
