Chapter 76 The Formation
At first glance, the crowd appeared as a dark mass of over 40 people, featuring several half–grown teenagers and strong–looking women.
Adam and Melton walked at the front, keeping everyone organized.
Elizabeth paused her work for the moment and walked over to Adam. “Mr. Rose, please register everyone first.”
She pointed toward the cleared open ground. “From now on, I’ll assign someone else to handle trash removal. Your main task will be turning the soil on the cleared plots.”
Adam looked at the not–so–large patch of land and did a quick estimate. “Ms. Schofield, just this area? With this many of us, we could probably finish in a day.”
Elizabeth smiled. “Don’t worry. Once this section’s done, there’ll be more cleared land handed over to you. There’ll be plenty of work.”
Only then did Adam nod in relief.
Not wanting to waste time, he immediately began assigning tasks and dividing up sections.
Before long, everyone was hard at work with their simple tools, the atmosphere buzzing with energy.
Adam then brought Fiona over to where Elizabeth was still marking out the perimeter.
“Ms. Schofield, there’s something I’d like to discuss,” Adam said carefully.
“What is it?” Elizabeth stopped what she was doing and looked at him.
“It’s like this,” Adam began, choosing his words. “We’d like to set up camp somewhere near your place. Those who work here could settle there directly. That way, if you need us, it’s more convenient, and we won’t have to spend time traveling back and forth every day. Would that be all right?”
“Of course,” Elizabeth agreed readily.
It would make managing workers easier for her too.
But she then gestured toward the area she was currently marking. “However, I’ve already claimed this entire stretch. It’ll all be enclosed soon. Beyond that, it’s nothing but garbage mountains. Where are you planning to camp?”
Most of the garbage mountains here towered 50 to 65 feet high. They weren’t something you could clear by hand.
Adam waved it off. “No problem at all! We’ll just find a relatively flat and stable spot on one of the garbage mountains and set up there. Our original small town was built on a garbage mountain too. We cleared it bit by bit over time. We’ve got experience.”
Then he stepped aside and introduced Fiona. “Ms. Schofield, this is Fiona, Melton’s wife. From now on,

she’ll be Hope Town’s representative here. If you need anything, you can go directly to her.”
This decision had been made after he and Melton talked it over the night before.
First, he trusted Fiona’s capability. She’d managed logistics in a legion before and had stronger coordination skills than anyone else.

Second, it was also for Elizabeth’s sake–to avoid putting a young woman in the position of constantly dealing directly with a man like Melton and any potential awkwardness or pressure that might bring.
Elizabeth had no objections.
After exchanging introductions and contact information through their devices, Fiona returned to join the soil–turning crew.
Elizabeth looked at Adam. “Mr. Rose, so you won’t be coming over anymore?”
A complicated expression flickered across his face as he waved a hand. “I’m old. I wouldn’t be much help. here anyway. I’d just slow you down. There are still plenty of people back in the small town… They need me to keep an eye on things.”
Elizabeth studied him briefly, understanding the meaning beneath his words. She nodded and didn’t press further. “Alright. Then I’ll leave things here to Fiona and you. Choose your campsite carefully and make sure it’s safe.”
Adam nodded. “I’ll go scout the area now. If I find a suitable place, I’ll let you know.”
After Adam left, Melton and Tiffany, who had been waiting nearby, stepped forward slightly.
Elizabeth told them to wait until she finished enclosing the remaining land before they set out to lure the Black Rats over.
The few acres already cleared were now in the plowing stage. She had no intention of letting that area get dirtied again.
Those Black Rats scum belonged buried in a garbage heap.
Melton and Tiffany understood without needing further explanation. Since Elizabeth hadn’t asked for help, they stayed quietly where they were…
Their sense of boundaries made Elizabeth feel at ease.
Pressed for time, Elizabeth marked the new perimeter with shallow lines scratched into the surface trash using her entrenching shovel.
