CHAPTER 13

Lisa stood frozen in the middle of the restaurant, her face drained of all color. Those words-” check the kitchen counter when you get home”-echoed in her mind.
They were almost identical to what she’d said to Alex just days ago when she’d coldly told him to prepare the guest room for Ben.
The realization that her own dismissive words were being thrown back at her left her momentarily speechless.
Several diners were now openly staring at their dramatic scene, whispers spreading through the elegant space.
“Lisa, let’s just go,” Ben said quietly, touching her elbow. “This isn’t worth it.”
But Lisa’s pride wouldn’t let her back down so easily. She straightened her shoulders, her CEO mask sliding back into place, and turned to face Allex with cold arrogance.
“Actually, Alex, perhaps you and your… friend should be the ones to leave,” Lisa said, her voice dripping with condescension.
Alex raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”
“This restaurant is completely out of your league.” Lisa’s smile was cruel, mocking. “I’m the CEO of BaiShui Group. I have considerable assets and a reputation to maintain. Dining at establishments like this is befitting of my status.” She looked Alex up and down with thinly veiled disgust. “You, on the other hand, are just a firefighter. A civil servant making what- fifty, sixty thousand a year? You can’t possibly afford the prices here.”
The surrounding diners gasped at the blatant insult. Even Ben looked uncomfortable, shifting his weight from foot to foot.
“Lisa, maybe we should-” Ben started.
“I’m not finished,” Lisa cut him off, her eyes never leaving Alex. “I won’t be embarrassed by having my soon-to-be ex-husband dining in the same restaurant as me, pretending he belongs in a place like this. So why don’t you take your little gold-digger and find a nice diner somewhere? I’m sure they have a dollar menu that’s more your speed.”
The restaurant fell completely silent. Even the soft classical music seemed to fade into the background.
Mia’s expression had gone from polite to absolutely frigid. She set down her napkin with deliberate care, a small smile playing at her lips-but there was no warmth in it.
“How interesting,” Mia said softly, her voice carrying clearly through the quiet restaurant. You think this place is befitting of your status?”
“Obviously,” Lisa said with a dismissive wave. “I dine here regularly. The owner knows me

personally.”
‘Really?” Mia’s smile widened. “That’s fascinating.”
Without another word, Mia raised her hand and snapped her fingers once-a casual, almost lazy gesture.
Immediately, a distinguished-looking man in his fifties hurried over from near the kitchen. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, his silver hair perfectly styled, his posture exuding the kind of authority that came from years of management.
“Miss Richardson!” The man’s face lit up with genuine warmth as he approached. He bowed his head respectfully. “I didn’t realize you were dining with us today. If you’d called ahead, I would have prepared your usual table.”
Lisa’s face went white. The restaurant manager-the man she’d claimed knew her personally- was treating Mia like royalty.
“That’s quite alright, Harold,” Mia said with a gracious smile. “This was a spontaneous visit. I wanted to thank my friend here for saving my life.”
“How wonderful!” Harold beamed at Alex. “Any friend of Miss Richardson’s is always welcome here, of course.”
“Actually, Harold, I have a small favor to ask.” Mia’s voice remained pleasant, but her eyes were ice-cold as she glanced at Lisa. “You see those two people? The woman in the black dress and her companion?”
Harold followed her gaze to Lisa and Ben, his expression immediately becoming more professional, distant. “Yes, Miss Richardson?”
“I’d like them added to the restaurant’s blacklist. Immediately. They are never to be served here again.”
The color completely drained from Lisa’s face. “What? You can’t-”
“I can, actually,” Mia interrupted smoothly. “You see, my family-the Vinda family-owns this restaurant. We own the entire building, in fact, along with twelve other properties in this city.” Her smile was poisonous. “And we don’t do business with people who treat others so disgracefully.”
“The… the Vinda family?” Lisa’s voice came out as barely a whisper.
