Chapter 2001: The First Issues

The first real problems didn’t come from inside the dungeon, but from outside, where the visitors were trying to arrange groups to start their runs.

To the Elders, especially the ones from the Blackwoods Pack, that was not a surprise at all. They knew perfectly well that most of these people couldn’t stand each other, or viewed each other as competition within their own Clans.

So, trying to get them to work together when they had overlapping interests was never going to be a clean and easy situation.

However, most of them had not expected that it would come to open combat in the city.

Not a prolonged combat. The security Golems stepped in after the first skill. But tensions were high, and if there hadn’t been a Supreme-Ranked wrath demon construct in a security outfit, they would have been repairing buildings.

"Alright, cut it out. We’re going to set up an arena ground for you all to sort out your differences," Karl shouted over the commotion.

Then, he conjured a small stone etched with runes and handed it to Leon.

"It’s a Pet Space, but I modified it for basic arena functions. Let them fight in there, but you’ll have to be the one to activate it, so everyone can use it."

Leon examined the stone, then handed it to Father Oak.

The old dragon smiled, and activated the space, creating a shining green portal at the side of the street.

Then he slipped the stone into his inventory, with absolutely zero intentions of giving it back.

Not that Karl would have asked, it was just a crude bit of stone with the [Pet Space] spell on it, and some runes describing an arena and a barrier. But in the hands of a Legendary green dragon, it would be so much more.

The Pet Space was designed to support the creature in it. So, when you made an arena, it came with snacks and liquor.

Guests could go and sit in the stands to watch the fight, but it was not a permanent facility like Karl knew they were going to have to make soon. But getting Oak’s dad to help them activate a proper arena facility in the city shouldn’t be too hard when the dragon was so clearly happy to have one for himself.

Come to think of it, while Runecrafting was common enough in the Darklight Host, the Pet Space spell was not.

It was highly specialized, so while Karl could duplicate the effect on a stone with a thought, trying to make the same thing without the spell would take a hundred times as many runes, and hours of hard work.

Even the Villa Stones that they sold at the store took significantly more work than this arena stone did, though that was mostly to set them up for training as well as safety.

The arena version would offer no such luxuries. There would be no enhanced mana regeneration, no bonus healing, nothing but the most essential parts of the Pet Space spell.
