Remi brought out the Haint Flowers, and the trio got right to work on three different versions of the pill.
An hour later, Remi was holding a small white ball, and looking at it with distaste.
{Soul Stealing Pill} Rare Grade. Scatters the nascent Immortal Spirit of an early Spirit Stage Immortal.
"{ Nope, my version didn’t work. It turned into a toxin. }"
Andrea shrugged. "Those are useful too. Make sure that you get good notes on the process and ingredients, so that we can reproduce it for later. There are many who would pay very well for a pill that would set their enemies back by years of practice.
Sure, it might not sell for much, but it should at least make back its ingredient cost."
She was an assassin and a Spy Master, as well as a Master Alchemist, specializing in Pills. If anyone in the world knew the possibilities of a toxic medicine, it was her. It might not be the sort of thing that was sold out in the open, or even acknowledged, but every single Clan and Guild, including the Darklight Host, had tried to sabotage a rival Clan’s young prodigy without leaving traces that would lead back to them.
Killing was inelegant, and encouraged more killing of prodigies. But a toxic pill mixed into medicine, or given as the real thing in a world where the System didn’t display the names, would look like a mistake in the formation process.
It wasn’t permanent, just a setback.
But a setback to a prodigy, hailed as a genius for their growth speed? That was as good as a death sentence for their reputation. Even if they were still the fastest of their group, the failure would haunt them.
Remi’s single minded pursuit of a target meant that the pill was just a failure in her mind, to be revisited later, if she happened to need that exact effect.
So, Andrea took it and stored it with the rest of her spare pills while Remi wrote the detailed process out, so that they wouldn’t try it again.
As she did that, Socrate finished his pill and shook his head.
"Right effect, too weak to count as an Immortal Pill. Scrap," he sighed.
"Well, next round. We got one improper effect and two failures this time, but with some tweaks, we will get there," Andrea insisted.
She already counted the day as a win, as she got a new poison out of it. But they were so close to managing to replicate one of the most useful resources for beginners at a cost that was ten percent of what the original needed.
That would turn it from a precious boon for the most talented, to something that any Spirit Immortal could afford with a year or two of hard work.
Still not cheap, but many parents could afford to buy one for their children.
This time, Remi didn’t try to condense it into a pill, as the original recipe called for. That was the purest and most efficient way to do it, as potions often contained large amounts of impurities. However, she thought that some of those impurities might actually help her balance the effect if she left them in.
