Chapter 296 The Encounter to the Restroom
Chapter 296 The Encounter in the Restroom
Tylissa didn’t expect to run to Ava there. A hint of surprise flashed across her face.
“Ms. Morren, your outfit tonight is pretty unique. Are you planning to go on stage dressed like that and play the lute?”
It wasn’t that it looked bad. Still, Tylissa couldn’t wrap her head around Ava actually going this far.

At her coming–of–age party, Ava wore a silk dress that made a strong impression. She hadn’t expected her to show up like this at the welcome gala.
Ava hadn’t expected her to start a conversation. Even though they had run into each other a few times at school, they always acted like strangers and never greeted each other.
Ava washed her hands and said, “I didn’t expect you to pay so much attention to me.”
Tylissa’s expression tightened for a moment, but she quickly put on her usual polite smile. “I just happened to see the performance list. Ms. Morren, you really are surprising. The lute isn’t exactly a common instrument, and you actually know how to play it.”
Ava turned and met her gaze. “The lute isn’t some rare, forgotten instrument. Does it really surprise you that I can play it?”
Tylissa paused, clearly caught off guard. Then she smiled again. “Ms. Morren, are you in a bad mood? Your tone makes it sound like you’re unhappy with me. Did I offend you somehow?”
Ava looked at her smiling face and felt a chill. Tylissa had stolen Malory’s hard work and sent her to the hospital, yet she acted as if nothing had happened.
“You haven’t offended me. We’re just strangers who know each other’s names. We were never close to begin with.”
Tylissa’s expression slowly darkened. Her lips pressed into a thin line.
Ava finished washing her hands and was about to leave.
As she walked past her, Tylissa spoke again. “Ava, I wasn’t trying to make things awkward between us. But since you and your sister don’t like me, that’s fine. I don’t like you either. Let’s just keep our distance and stay out of each other’s way.”
A faint mocking smile touched Ava’s lips. She didn’t reply and walked out.
Tylissa clenched her teeth as she watched her leave. Anger flickered in her eyes, but she forced it down and straightened her back
When Ava returned to the room, Noelle gave her a once–over. “Why do I feel like you’re in a bad mood after going out?”
Ava sat down and smoothed out her dress. “I ran into Tylissa in the restroom. We talked for a bit.”
“What could you two even talk about?”
Noelle looked genuinely surprised. It had been a while since school started. Ava got along with people just fine, but no one had ever heard of her being involved with Tylissa
“She asked if I was going to dress like this and play the lute.”
“She’s paying that much attention to you?” Noelle’s voice rase. “Is she that scared of losing? Is she worried you’ll outshine her?

Zoey cut in. “The lute and the zither are both classical instruments, but way fewer people play the lute now. I bet she sees you as competition and is worried you’ll take the spotlight. She always wants to come out on top. That’s a bit much”
The three of them talked quietly for a while. From the stage, the host’s voice made it clear Ava’s turn was coming up soon.
Noelle and Zoey clapped hands with her.
“Good luck, Ava!”
“Good luck!”
Ava walked out of the room. She put on her veil and headed forward.
Noelle and Zoey stood at the door, watching her leave. Zoey spoke under her breath, “Oh my god, I’m actually nervous. I don’t know what kind of surprise Ava is going to bring, but I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing.”
Noelle gave a small smile. “I think so too. Especially after what happened to Malory. This time, Ava is definitely going to stand up for her. Some people can get away with things for a while, but they won’t get away with it forever.”
Ava stood backstage and waited. Malory’s homeroom teacher came over and spoke with her for a bit. They talked about Malory’s situation. The teacher worried Ava might feel too much pressure, so she tried to reassure her.
The performance on stage was coming to an end. Applause echoed from the audience.
The female host returned to the stage and praised the performance that had just finished.
Ava checked in with the staff beside her and finished her final preparations.
“The next performance was originally a solo dance by Malory Rayner from the Philosophy Department. Unfortunately, she had an accident during rehearsal at noon and is still in the hospital. She’s passed this opportunity to her friend. Now, let’s welcome Ava Morren, who will take the stage in her place and perform for her.”
The stage went dark. Smoke filled the air, making it hard to see clearly.
Ava leaned forward on the floor, already in position. As a few beams of stage light came down and the music started, she lifted her body with the rhythm. Her arms rose, and she moved like a butterfly just waking up, slowly coming to life.
