After studying his expression for a moment, she suddenly struck. Scooping up a bit of cream from her plate, she quickly swiped it across his face and bolted away.

Keith didn’t move out of the way. He casually wiped his cheek, only to find his hand covered in cream instead. Then he lifted his gaze toward her, where she stood a few feet away, laughing uncontrollably.

He curled a finger at her in a come-here gesture. “So you like messing with me? Come over them. Do as much as you want.”

Ava paused, watching him carefully. Seeing no trace of anger, she finally walked back toward him.

Noticing how relaxed he remained, she tilted her head. “Then I’m doing it again.”

He only smiled and gave a slight nod.

With an exaggerated cough, Ava gathered another small scoop of cream and pressed it onto the opposite side of his face. Taking in the two matching smears, she burst into laughter. “There. Now you don’t look so noble and untouchable anymore-you’ve finally got a bit of real-world, down-to-earth charm!”

A bit of cream still clung to her fingers as she laughed, eyes bright with amusement, as though this was the most entertaining thing she had ever done.

Keith caught her wrist, meeting her eyes directly. “Thanks for the approval, my princess. Now it’s my turn to have some cream.

Before she could react, she felt a soft, warm pressure at her fingertips as he leaned in.

Even as he did it, his gaze never left hers.

The sweetness of the cream lingered as it melted on his tongue. What he truly wanted was to close the distance between them and taste the softness of her rose-tinted lips, but he restrained himself.

Forcing the thought away, he said calmly, “All right. Cake’s done. Let’s set off the fireworks.”

They arranged the fireworks in a neat row. Ava also grabbed the lighter and lit the first fuse, immediately retreating after. Moments later, sharp pops echoed as brilliant bursts of color filled the night sky.

The bonfire flickered quietly while the pair who had lit up the celebration walked side by side back toward the villa.

Ava suddenly stopped Keith and disappeared into her room. When she returned, she was holding a ribbon-tied box, which she placed in his hands. “Happy birthday. This is for you.”

Keith looked at the gift, a smile forming. “You actually prepared something for me?”

As he spoke, he accepted the box. “Thank you.”

Ava returned his smile. “Open it when you’re back in your room. I hope you like it. I had a great time today too-it’s a Saturday won’t forget.”

He putted her into a brief embrace, then lowered his voice beside her ear. “Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

Back in his room, Keith couldn’t wait. He untied the ribbon and opened the box, revealing a pair of cufflinks.

He hadn’t expected a gift at all-he never even asked for one. Yet she had still thought carefully about it. That small gesture made it clear he was gradually becoming important to her.

Turning the cufflinks over in his hand, he studied them for a while before placing them back inside the box. He then took a photo from a flattering angle and posted it on his Holoband with the caption.

“Birthday gift.”

Within seconds, comments flooded in. Keith ignored every single one.

After his shower, a couple of snide remarks appeared in the five-person group chat on his Holoband.

Ryan: Well, happy birthday. You’re getting older.

Ryan: It’s just a gift. Did you really need to show it off like that? You’re acting like you’re the only one who matters.

Keith didn’t even bother replying.

Instead, he opened Ava’s profile and sent her a message.

“I love the gift. Thanks, babe.”

Right after, he transferred her some money.

“Allowance for my sweet babe. Use it however you want.”

He switched off the lights and lay down. Thinking about how she was sleeping in the room next door filled him with a quiet sense of calm. In his mind, he murmured, Goodnight, my princess.

That night, Keith dreamt of Ava. In the dream, he crossed lines he still didn’t dare approach in reality.

The next afternoon, they returned to the Capitol Planet.

Once Ava got back to school, her friends in the group chat started tagging her, and they arranged to have dinner together that

evening.

Ava took out the souvenirs and passed them around. “I heard these are local specialties there, so I got one for each of you.”

Malory opened hers first, revealing a pair of round pearl earrings. The pearls were large, radiant, and of excellent quality. “There beautiful. Thanks, Ava.”

“You still thought of us even while you were away. Ava, you’re honestly the best.”

All the gifts were the same in design, with only subtle differences in color.

Naomi smiled faintly. “These pearls aren’t cheap. You must’ve spent quite a bit.”

Ava simply smiled in return. “As long as you like them.”
