Chapter 374 A Small Surgery

Queenie knew Keith was one of Ava’s fiances.

Ava had already stepped in for her far more than anyone reasonably should have. There was no way Queenie could let her carry even more danger on her behalf.

Ava nodded, expression turning serious. “Alright. I’ll talk to Keith later. And for the surgery, I’ll find the safest doctor I can.”

Queenie crossed the room to the wall, took down the self-portrait called ‘The Sacrificed Girl,’ and without a moment’s hesitation drove a knife straight through the canvas. She slashed it apart piece by piece, then dumped the shredded remains into the trash.

When she lifted her head again, something in her eyes had changed.

“One day,” she said, “the Yeager family is going to pay for what they did. An orphan they looked down on is going to tear a piece out of them.”

Her mouth tightened.

“Rodney and Jerome have never truly taken me seriously. When I talked about divorce before, they thought I was just making noise. In their minds, they’ve already broken me so thoroughly that there’s nothing left in me to resist.”

Then her tone sharpened. “But all these years, my silence was never surrender. I was waiting.”

A cold laugh slipped out.

“They treat me like this and still expect me to play the role of wife? Ridiculous. What I want more than anything is to carve them open myself. Even if I peeled them apart inch by inch, it still wouldn’t equal what they’ve done to me.”

For years, she had bowed her head. For years, she had endured.

They thought that because she was a woman, because she had been kept like a bird in a cage, they had absolute control over her.

What they never understood was this:

Queenie had never been someone who submitted to fate.

If her ending truly had to be death, then before that day came, she would drag the entire Yeager family down with her.

The two of them talked a little longer.

Ava knew Queenie had only just left the hospital, so she did not stay too long. Soon after, she returned to her own dorm.

Two days later, Ava brought her definite news.

urgery had been arranged.

night. And it would be done right there in Queenie’s dorm room.

he first time, a thread of hope stirred in Queenie’s chest. Everything was still being carried in secret, but she did not dare relax.

efore that day came, she sent messages to both her husbands, deliberately presenting herself s a wife whose spirit had been completely crushed.

Rodney, true to form, looked down on her as always.

In his reply, he cursed at her and accused her of making a mountain out of nothing. According to him, her behavior had even gotten him punished by his grandfather.

Queenie laughed coldly after reading it, thinking, A pampered little beast. The whole Yeager family really is rotten from the inside out.

Jerome, on the other hand, called her directly.

Over video, he spoke a few soft, placating words, but beneath them lay a clear warning: she was never to mention divorce so casually again. They were husband and wife, and always would be.

Then he told her to recover at school for now. After some time had passed, they would take her home.

Queenie listened with a blank face as she thought, A smug hypocrite. A snake dressed in human skin.

Still, she knew she had temporarily eased some of their suspicion.

The two of them walked in together, hand in hand, chatting and smiling like mother and daughter as they passed through the entrance to Orchid Court.

Ava first brought Claire to her own dorm and let her sit for a while. After some time had passed, she quietly took her downstairs to Queenie’s room.

Queenie opened the door and let them in.

Claire set down her medical case and began taking out the instruments she needed.

“Sweetheart, it’s only a small procedure,” Claire said softly. “It’ll be over very quickly.”

“Thank you for doing this,” Queenie said as she lowered herself into the chair.

Once the local anesthetic had taken effect, the scalpel cut through the flesh of Queenie’s arm under the pale white light.

Blood welled up.

Soon enough, the tracking device appeared beneath the layer of mimic skin.

Claire carefully removed it intact.

When the stitching was done and the medicine applied, Claire removed her disposable gloves and said, “This is scar-repair ointment from our hospital. Once the wound starts to scab over, apply it morning and night. It shouldn’t leave a mark.”

Queenie thanked her.

Looking at the tracking chip now lying there, no longer hidden inside her body, she almost wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.

But in the end, her face only went quiet again. “Thank you, Ms. Claire.”

Claire stepped forward and pulled her into a gentle embrace. “Things will sweetheart.”

That one embrace broke something inside Queenie.
