He was furious enough that for a moment, he almost did not know what to say.

Rodney was a complete idiot. Whenever he did something reckless, it was always worse than anyone expected.
“Jerome, what matters now is fixing this!”
“It can’t be fixed.” Jerome’s voice was heavy. “She planned this carefully. Public anger is already out of control. We can’t bury it anymore.”
Then his face hardened further before he added, “So when she said that day that she wanted a divorce, she meant every word.”
Jerome dragged a hand down his face.

He had been too confident. Too certain that Queenie was still the same woman they had always kept under their heel, someone who could never stir up anything big enough to matter.
“It’s just a divorce, isn’t it? Fine. Then let it be a divorce. I’ll agree.” Rodney raked his fingers through his hair in frustration. “But she won’t answer a single Holoband message from me.”
His expression turned vicious. “That woman… Once this blows over, I’ll make her regret she was ever born.”
Jerome was nowhere near as hopeful as Rodney.
The whole thing had erupted too neatly, and Queenie had managed to leave the country far too quickly. There was no way she had done all of that alone.
Someone had to be helping her.
And over the years, Queenie had never had any truly close people around her. Even the men they had passed her around to had never kept real ties to her afterward.
While they were still speaking, a news alert suddenly lit up the Holoband.
Rodney opened it.
It was Sebastian.
He had post from his personal account, publicly announcing that he would act as Queenie’s
case. Attached to the post was Queenie’s signed authorization letter.

The comments beneath Sebastian’s post were climbing so fast they looked almost unreal.
“Mr. Montclair, you really are a lawyer with actual principles! Going against something as rotten as the Yeager family, and in a case this explosive, and you still stepped forward this openly.”
“Mr. Montclair, I hope you win the divorce for her. Better than that, I hope those beasts end in prison.”
“This is what privilege really looks like. Girls who dream about breaking into high society should open their eyes and look carefully. This is the truth. If you’re a young woman with no power and no family backing, that world will chew you up until nothing is left.”

“As a woman, I have never hated this society more. And I’ve never seen more clearly that men have never truly regarded us as equals.”
