Before she could finish. Laurent leaned down and pulled her into a hug.
He held her close his breath warm against her car. Keith raised an eyebrow, watching the two of them embrace in vilence
Ava felt the heat radiating from him and gave his chest a light shove. “Um. it’s a little warmy. Could you let
Laurent released her “You just got back from school. Do you want something to eat?”
Ava shook her head. “No, it’s late. I won’t sleep well if I eat this close to bed.
Keith reached into the entryway cabinet, took down the shirt that belonged to him, and draped it over his arm. “Get some rest. Ava, he said softly. I’ll head out now.”
Ava turned to him in surprise; she had assumed he would be staying the night starting today.
Reading the look in her eyes, he explained, I don’t have many of my things here yet. Tonight isn’t the best time for me to stay over
As he opened the front door, she followed him to the porch.
“Drive carefully,” she reminded him.
He nodded and gave her a brief hug. “I’m off then. Goodnight.”
Once the door was shut, Ava turned to Laurent. “I’m heading upstairs now.” She retreated to her room on the second floor and grabbed her things to take a shower.
Downstairs, Laurent sat on the couch and sent a private message to Keith.
“Quite the performance tonight! The entertainment industry is really losing out by not having you in it.”
Keith was driving when his Holoband chimed. He switched to autopilot and checked the message.
“Kight back at you! If you weren’t such an actor yourself, would you be sitting in her house right now memaging me?
“You came back and moved in secretly without saying a word to the rest of us. If we’re talking about being a performer, Laurent, you’re the lead role
Laurem let out a cold snort at the replies.
I was gone for ages, and you guys made zero progress. Now, you’re judging me for moving in? I earned my spot here Got a problem with that?”
Krithe eyes crinkled with a lain smile as he read it. “Not at all. In fact thanks for seting a great precedept

for the rest of us brothers!”
Laurent was almost amused by the audacity. “Since you put it that way, I’ll make sure to set the precede for all the ‘firsts’ to come, too.”
“You think every good thing is going to fall to you first? Don’t be so sure. We’re all close to the fource -our chances are the same.”
Laurent didn’t bother replying. The same? Maybe, but I am the one already inside the house.
The last week of June was a blur of finals. Everyone knew Starry Heavens University was famous for its high failure rate, so the guys collectively gave Ava space, not wanting to distract her from her studies.
She finally enjoyed a few days of peace-or as much peace as one could have with two men suddenly living under the same roof.
It was a strange adjustment. Keith left for work every morning and only returned in the evening, while Laurent, after staying home for the first two days, started leaving early and coming back late, busy with some unknown task.
By the end of June, the exams were over. After finishing her last subject, Ava met up with her friends for: celebratory end-of-term dinner.
Noelle and Zoey were headed home on July 1st. Naomi was going traveling for the summer, and Malory planned to vacation with her boyfriend for a few days before going home.
Having come from all corners of the galaxy to meet at Starry Heavens, the girls were in high spirits. Relaxed and relieved to be done with school, they headed to a bar after dinner.
They ordered a dozen drinks, laughing and joking around.
Malory hogged the mic, belting out several songs in a row before Naomi joined her, the two of them singing with their arms around each other’s shoulders.
Zoey let out a few hiccups, clearly tipsy. She stared with bleary eyes at the two girls dancing and singing across the room.
Noelle was the only sober one; she had stayed away from alcohol due to an allergy and stuck to fruit juice. She shook her head at Malory, who was currently howling like a drunken ghost.
Seeing Zoey reach for another glass, Noelle quickly stopped her. “That’s enough. You can barely keep your eyes open. Are you trying to drink yourself under the table?”
Zoey suddenly flopped into Noelle’s arms, clutching her clothes as she slurred, “Noelle… he doesn’t like me. But I like him so much.”
