“I never said it was your fault. What are you getting so worked up about?” Ethan reached out and ruffled her hair. “Did that scare you?”
“No,” Ava snapped. “That girl’s just messed up in the head. You can’t reason with someone like that.” She tried to dodge his hand but failed.
Ryan scoffed. “Sneaking Asher in to watch the game behind our backs. What exactly do you think we are to you?”
Ava shot him a look.
The oversized hood was pulled low, his features completely hidden, and even his eyes were behind dark sunglasses. If that wasn’t Ryan, who else could it be?
“You’re rocking a pretty abstract look today,” she opined
“You woman!” He was about to lose it. “I got up early to handle your trending drama. You didn’t even thank me, and you’re now saying this?”
Keith jumped in, trying to smooth things over. “His presence draws way too much attention in a setting like this. You wouldn’t want to be under that kind of spotlight either.”
Ava nodded. “Yeah, I almost forgot about that part.”
Mason shot her a sharp look, frowning. “People were messing with you, and you didn’t tell us? You do stuff like this, and it makes me look bad.”
She met his gaze with a cold, innocent expression. “How was I supposed to know I’d get this unlucky? I was just watching a game as a bystander and somehow got caught up in drama.”
Keith chuckled. “Ava was underage back then and focused on school. It makes sense she didn’t pay much attention to other stuff. Situations like this are bound to happen again.”
Ava clicked her tongue and flicked her head, her ponytail brushing past Ethan’s face. “Better make sure there isn’t a next time. These people are crazy. What do they have to do with me?”
“I’m not saying it’s your fault,” Keith said calmly. “Just trying to tell you how the world works. Even if you don’t provoke anyone, some people will come looking for trouble. When it happens, don’t waste time trying to reason with them. Not everyone deserves your kindness. Sometimes a little force and a cold stare can save you a lot of headaches.”
“Everything handled?” Laurent asked.
“The live stream’s cut, the on–site signal’s blocked, and the energy shield covers the whole area. Nothing’s slipping through now. The portrait images online are dealt with too,” Ethan replied. “As for the woman’s husband, I’m guessing he’s already on his way.”
Jolene froze, staring at the people who had suddenly appeared. She was used to calling the shots, and while she didn’t know all of them, two of them were instantly familiar.
One was Ethan, Rank Double–S, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the youngest lawmaker ever. He had recently appeared on a legal channel’s promotional segment.
The other was Mason, Rank Triple–S, had a feature interview in a financial magazine last year and had been

“You’re not just a regular person, right? What’s your deal with them?” Jolene shouted, her voice cracking “Wasn’t it online that you’re single? Are you guys lying
what?”
Ava had no idea what kind of meltdown Jolene was having this time. She glanced at the group and muttered, “See? She’s losing it again. Forces a guy to my her, gets rejected, throws a fit, and now she’s trying to take it out on me. And she flirts with Asher just because he’s good–looking. She acts like she’s a catch–has she even looked at herself? I swear, some psych ward must’ve left the doors wide open and just let her loose on everyone.”
Ryan couldn’t help it. He burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny? She started it, that’s all.” She frowned him, not seeing what was amusing.
Her expression was a mix of seriousness and confusion, and it was somehow unbearably endearing. She was clearly mad, but her insults were so sparse and awkward that it made the people want to scoop her up and pinch her checks a little.
“You are way too cute.” Keith couldn’t resist and pinched her nose. “You’re this cute. I’m gonna have to hide you away someday.”
Ava smacked his hand lightly. “Talk all you want. Keep your hands to yourself.”
Asher watched from the side, feeling a pang of jealousy. Thinking about these people ending up as his brothers–in–law made him feel sick.
Ava has only been back with the Morrens for a few days, hasn’t even started enjoying herself, and she’s already someone else’s wife!
“Ava, come stand by me,” he called out.
She immediately ran over and stood next to him, perfectly obedient, like the ideal little sister.
Ryan clenched his jaw. He couldn’t stand Asher and sneered. “You’re just her brother, not her man. Have some boundaries!”
Asher tilted his head and rested it on Ava’s shoulder, fak crying as he complained. “Ava, he’s talking about
me.”
In Ava’s heart, the Morrens were naturally closer than these forced–marriage husbands. After all, they were basically strangers who had only met twice, while Asher was real family.
