The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 429

Will came looking for Jace, but he didn’t expect to find him with Lilly. The moment Will saw her, his eyes practically popped.

Lilly let go of Jace right away and gave Will a shy smile. “Hi, I’m Lilly.”

“Hey, I’m Will,” he said, still kind of surprised. “Jace, is this your girlfriend?”

“She’s not,” Jace replied.

“Yes, I am!” Lilly jumped in without missing a beat.

Jace had nothing to say to that.

Will burst out laughing. “Jace, I really thought you’d be single forever. You’ve never shown any interest in girls, ever. Now I get it, though. You just have really high standards. Lilly totally leaves all those other girls who liked you in the dust.”

Jace set down the spatula and gave Will a look. “Come on, let’s talk outside.”

Once they stepped out, Jace got straight to the point. “Alright, what’s going on? Why are you here?”

Will’s expression turned serious. “Jace, that guy you’ve been watching, Skeleton, he’s made a move. He’s here.”

Skeleton was the drug lord from years ago. Jace’s dad had gone undercover in his operation, but when he got found out, he was killed.

Jace had been hunting this guy ever since. Now, Skeleton had finally shown up.

A cold wind kicked up, making Jace’s thin black T-shirt puff out. His eyes looked icy. “Okay.”

He turned to head back inside.

Will called after him. “Jace, your girlfriend is really stunning.”

Jace pressed his lips together. “We’re not together.”

“Come on, seriously?” Will looked him up and down. “Jace, we’ve known each other since we were kids. You don’t let anyone get close if you don’t like them. The only way someone gets near you is if you actually do like them.”

Jace didn’t answer right away. After a few seconds, he said quietly, “I can’t give her a future. There’s no point in starting anything. Her family is doing really well.”

Victoria jumped in immediately. “Jace, hurry up and give Lilly a piece.”

Lilly looked at Jace, hopeful and excited.

Jace picked up another piece of rib and placed it in Lilly’s bowl.

She took a bite. Ever since she first saw him cook the ribs, she’d wanted to try them. Now that she had, they were even better than she imagined.

A sweet smile spread across Lilly’s face. “This is amazing.”

Tiffany said, “If you like it, Lilly, come over more often. Jace can make it for you whenever.”

Lilly glanced at Jace with a grin. “Sure, I’d love that.”

Just as dinner was wrapping up, thunder boomed outside, lightning flashed, and rain started pouring down.
