The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 560

Mrs. Harmon glanced at David. “David, why are you here by yourself? Where’s Jessa?”

She was just asking when Jessa came jogging over, her smile as bright as the morning sun. “Mrs. Harmon, hi! I’m right here.”

Jessa already knew Mrs. Harmon would be visiting Rockford Bay today, so she had shown up early. She stood out in any crowd, as beautiful as a red rose in full bloom. Standing next to David, they honestly looked like they belonged together—like a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Mrs. Harmon looked Jessa up and down, her eyes full of approval. “You must be Jessa. I’ve heard so much about you. You really are as lovely as they say.”

Jessa took her hand, cheeks turning a little pink. “Thank you, Mrs. Harmon.”

Mrs. Harmon gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “Jessa, the Harmon and Wade families have had a marriage agreement for years. Tell me honestly, do you like David?”

Jessa glanced up at David. Her heart skipped a beat just looking at him. He’s so handsome and so out of reach. She bit her lip, suddenly shy. “Of course I do, Mrs. Harmon… I really like David.”

“That’s wonderful.” Mrs. Harmon smiled, looking even more pleased. “When you both get back to the Capital, our families will arrange the wedding. Let’s make it official as soon as possible.”

Jessa nodded right away. “Okay. I’m happy with that.”

David’s face was unreadable. His voice was cool and distant. “Mom, I’m not going to marry Jessa.”

Jessa’s heart stopped for a second.

Mrs. Harmon’s tone left no room for argument. “Marriage isn’t a joke, David. No one but Jessa will ever join our family. She’s the only daughter-in-law I’ll accept.”

She turned to Jessa, her voice warm again. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’ll always have your back. If David ever gives you trouble, you can come straight to me.”

Jessa could hardly contain her excitement. Just when she thought she and David had no future, Mrs. Harmon had become her greatest supporter.

David was always a loyal son. With his mother on her side, Jessa felt like it was only a matter of time before she became Mrs. Harmon herself.

Ella didn’t stand a chance.

Jessa nodded. “Thank you, Mrs. Harmon. I understand.”

“You can let your team handle things here. There’s work waiting for you in the Capital…”

David suddenly stood up. “Mom, I have things to take care of at the office. Please excuse me.”

With that, he walked out of the room.

Everyone stared after him, stunned. Mrs. Harmon’s face darkened.

Jessa lowered her head, her voice small and hurt. “Mrs. Harmon, I don’t think David likes me very much.”

“Nonsense, Jessa,” Mrs. Harmon tried to reassure her.

Jessa hesitated but then spoke up. “Mrs. Harmon, you might not know this, but David is obsessed with a girl named Ella. She’s with another man, and she’s even pregnant with his child, but David just can’t let her go.”

“What?” Mrs. Harmon looked completely shocked, like she might leap out of her chair. She’d heard the name Ella before, but she had no idea this girl was pregnant with someone else’s child. “Her private life is that much of a mess? How could David fall for someone like that?”
