The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 616

Brandon stood in front of Skeleton, practically bowing, eager to please. “Skeleton, hey. This is my son-in-law, Jace.”

Jace met Skeleton’s gaze, calm and steady. “Hello, Skeleton.”

Skeleton stared down at him, sizing him up. “So, you’re Brandon’s son-in-law?”

Jace nodded. “Yeah. That’s me.”

Skeleton looked him over, a flicker of recognition in his eyes. “You seem familiar. Have we met before?”

Brandon let out a quick laugh. “Oh, you must be joking. There’s no way my son-in-law could have crossed paths with someone as important as you. Maybe he just looks like someone else?”

Skeleton paused, considering. Then his eyes narrowed on Jace. “You actually remind me of a narcotics officer I once knew.”

At that, Brandon’s face changed. “Wait, Skeleton. You mean… that guy?”

“Exactly. Him. Years ago, he came to work for me, and I noticed him right away. He was smart, capable… even saved my life once. I admired him. Treated him like a brother. But he lied to me.”

Skeleton’s eyes hardened, old anger burning there. “He got close to me for a reason. He wanted me dead. He was an undercover cop. Because of him, I lost so much, almost died. This scar on my face? He gave me that.”

He suddenly grinned, cruel and cold. “But so what? He still lost. That day, I had my men snatch ten kids from a local school. Just like I thought, he went to save them. I burned him alive. Made sure he could never clear his name. Now, everyone thinks he was just a drug dealer. I wanted people to hate him, even the ones he saved. He loved playing hero, loved justice. Well, I turned him into a joke.”

Jace’s hands balled into fists at his sides. That man was his father.

His father had been an undercover officer, but nobody believed it. After his father died, everyone called Jace the son of a criminal. He, his mom, and his sister had been shunned by everyone.

Brandon jumped in, eager to change the subject. “Right, Skeleton. Jace is my son-in-law. I trust him more than anyone. I’m planning to hand all my business over to him.”

Skeleton looked like he wanted to say something, but suddenly police sirens wailed outside, cutting through the conversation.

Two of Skeleton’s men burst in, panic written all over their faces. “Skeleton, it’s bad. The police are here!”

What?

Skeleton jumped up, his face going pale. “How did they find me? No one knew where I was. Who gave me up?”

He turned, his eyes landing on Brandon and Jace. “It was you.”
