The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 622

Ella was still holed up in the Irvine family’s old house, focused on her work with the antidote, when the door creaked open. A maid slipped inside. “Ella, Mrs. Irvine would like you to come see her.”

Grandma Jill wanted to meet with her? Ella didn’t bother looking up from her work. Her tone was calm and distant. “I’m not going.”

The maid stared at her in shock. “What? Ella, how can you be so rude? Mrs. Irvine is calling for you and you refuse? That’s just disrespectful.”

Ella let out a cold little laugh. Even a maid here felt entitled to boss her around. It was obvious exactly how little the Irvines thought of her.

“I think you’re forgetting something. I’m here because you all asked me to come and work on the antidote. I never begged to be here. If Grandma Jill wants to talk, she can come to me. I’m not going to her.”

“You…” The maid was left speechless. Faced with Ella’s stubborn attitude, she could only storm out, grumbling under her breath.

She hurried back to Grandma Jill’s room. The old lady was waiting by the door. “Well? Where’s Ella?”

“I asked her to come, ma’am, but she refused.”

Grandma Jill’s brows knitted together. “Why would she do that?”

“She’s really arrogant. She said if you have something to say, you should go see her yourself. She’s not coming here.”

Grandma Jill froze for a second.

The maid wrung her hands. “What should we do now?”

Grandma Jill’s face darkened. What could she do? Her precious son Peter was lying in a hospital bed and the doctors had already given up, declaring him a lost cause. She couldn’t let it end like this. She needed Ella.

“Fine. I’ll go to her.”

A slow, knowing smile played on Ella’s lips. “Yes, I can save him.”

Relief flooded Grandma Jill’s face. She reached out and grabbed Ella’s arm. “Thank goodness. Let’s go to the hospital right now. Please, save my son.”

But Ella slipped her arm free, her voice calm and almost gentle. “I can save your son. But why should I?”

Grandma Jill went rigid. “You…”

Ella tilted her head, eyes bright with a hint of amusement. “Peter and I aren’t family. Why should I help him?”

Grandma Jill’s voice trembled. “Ella, Peter is your uncle. If your father were still alive, he’d want you to help him.”

The mention of her father made Ella’s whole expression go cold. She couldn’t believe Grandma Jill still had the nerve to try and play the family card. As if she didn’t know exactly how her father had died, or who was responsible for it.
