The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 627

Jessa stared, lost for words. “Ella!”

Ella watched her closely, suspicion written all over her face. “And another thing… I haven’t even finished the antidote yet. How did you manage to wake up by yourself?”

Jessa’s eyes darted away, a flash of guilt betraying her.

“If I’d really poisoned you, trust me, you wouldn’t have woken up at all. But here you are, awake and alive. Mr. Wade, I think there’s something really off about this. You should probably look into it,” Ella said, turning her gaze to Moss.

Moss looked at Jessa, his eyes sharp and steady. The way he studied her sent a chill down her spine. She suddenly felt exposed, like he could see right through her.

She quickly grabbed her head, pretending to feel weak. “Dad, I think I’m feeling dizzy.”

“You should get some rest, Jessa.” Moss gently tucked the blanket around her, then led everyone out of the room.

Once they were in the hallway, Moss stopped and looked at Ella. “What do you think really happened with Jessa’s poisoning?”

Ella didn’t hesitate. “Mr. Wade, I actually believe Jessa poisoned herself.”

Moss pressed his lips together, considering her words.

Ella went on, “She probably wanted to frame me, but things didn’t go the way she expected. When she lost control of the situation, she had no choice but to wake up herself.”

Moss didn’t say anything, just kept watching her.

Ella met his gaze, her tone blunt. “Honestly, Jessa really isn’t like you at all. She’s not very smart. She didn’t inherit an ounce of your intelligence. What about Mrs. Wade? Was she just a pretty face? Is Jessa like her mother?”

At the mention of Jessa’s mother, Moss’s handsome features turned cold, his jaw set. “No. Jessa’s mother was no fool. She was actually very clever.”

Rachel froze, her hand dropping. “Jessa, what’s wrong?”

Jessa glared at her, her anger bubbling over. “Look at the mess you made. We agreed I’d poison myself and you’d use the chance to pin it on Ella, get Dad to drive her out. Instead, you messed everything up. You woke me up too soon. Now the whole plan’s ruined.”

This was their scheme, the two of them. Jessa had faked her own poisoning, hoping to set Ella up. They couldn’t let her leave with David’s baby. Ella was a threat and the child she carried was a ticking bomb. So they’d taken the risk and tried to frame her.

“Jessa, please, let me explain. I did everything I could, but Mr. Wade doesn’t trust me. He only believes Ella. Both he and Mr. Harmon are on her side.”

Jessa’s face twisted with frustration. Her own father and her fiancé were both standing up for Ella. What was so special about her? Why was she always in the way?

“Then why did you give me the antidote and wake me up early?”

Rachel barely had time to answer. “Jessa, it’s bad… It’s about Peter.”
