A shiver ran straight up David’s spine. Ella was addictive, like something he could never get enough of. Every second with her set his blood on fire, made it impossible to pull away.
He pressed his face into her hair, his voice rough and low. “Shh, be quiet.”
His breath came hard and fast.
Ella’s dark lashes fluttered, her delicate cheeks flushed with an irresistible pink. “David, let me go!”
He kissed her hair, grinning against it. “Funny, your body’s telling a different story. Ella, you’re a lot more honest when you’re not talking.”
Ella felt everything slipping out of her grasp. She shoved at his chest. “David!”
He leaned in, teeth grazing her soft earlobe. “You never slept with Wyatt, did you?”
Ella’s eyes widened. She wanted to clamp a hand over his mouth.
David’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Does he not do it for you? Because you… you don’t seem satisfied.”
Was he insane?
She shot him a glare. “Show some respect.”
Just then, her phone started to ring.
“My phone! Let go, David!”
She fumbled for her phone, Wyatt’s name lighting up the screen.
Wyatt had been searching the airport for ages, trying to find her and Lola. He finally called.
Ella answered, trying to keep her voice steady. “Hello?”
Wyatt sounded worried. “Ella, where are you? I’m at the airport. I don’t see you or Lola anywhere.”
Wyatt’s voice shifted, calmer but sharp. “Mr. Harmon, what is this about? Maybe you don’t know, but Ella and I have been married for three years.”
Wyatt was laying it on thick.
Ella just pressed her lips together. She knew Wyatt was only saying that to get under his skin.
David stiffened. He had wondered if she and Wyatt were actually married, especially with Lola in the picture. But hearing Wyatt say it out loud hit different.
“Mr. Harmon, Ella’s my wife. Lola is my daughter. So I’m not sure what you’re up to. Are you trying to steal my wife and kid? Are you planning to be the other man?”
The other man?
Ella couldn’t believe how dramatic Wyatt was getting.
David looked at Ella, her face so small and lovely, and answered slowly into the phone, “I’m not planning to give Ella back. I guess I’ll just be the other man, then.”
