Ella owned up to it with no hesitation. “That was me.”
Moss couldn’t help but be impressed. It wasn’t every day you saw someone her age making waves in the business world.
“Ms. Irvine, what brings you to me today?”
Ella smiled, her lips painted a bold red. “Mr. Wade, I just got to the Capital and thought I’d like to pay a visit to the Wade family.”
She made it clear she wanted to go to the Wade estate.
He paused for a second, then let out a small laugh. “Ms. Irvine wants to visit my home?”
“That’s right. I’ve heard your estate is stunning. I figured I should see it with my own eyes.”
Moss still wasn’t sure what Ella had in mind, but he nodded. “Alright. You can come home with me, Ms. Irvine.”
Ella hadn’t expected it to be that easy. “Thank you, Mr. Wade.”
…
Jessa was at the Wade estate. Last night, she’d tried to set Ella up at a private vineyard, but her plan had flopped. She’d barely managed to escape getting caught herself.
She was so anxious she hadn’t slept at all. By morning, she was up early, nerves on edge. She knew her dad was coming home today.
When he was away, she’d had free rein, hiding behind her status as the richest heiress in town. But now that her father was back, she couldn’t just do whatever she wanted anymore.
Jessa paced around the living room, waiting for Moss to walk through the door. Suddenly, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen. It was one of her guys.
She picked up. “What are you doing calling me? Didn’t I tell you last night to sit tight and not do anything unless I told you? Don’t contact me unless I reach out first.”
She was terrified they’d mess something up and blow her cover.
A rough voice answered, “Ms. Wade, we didn’t want to call, but we were supposed to be done after the last job. Now we’ve got Mrs. Harmon and the kid, and things are getting tense. Don’t you think it’s time you paid us a little extra?”
Jessa rushed over, practically beaming. “Dad, you’re finally back. You were gone forever. I missed you so much.”
Moss smiled and ruffled her hair. “I missed you too, Jessa.”
She reached out, ready to link arms with him. But just then, a clear, familiar voice cut in.
“Hello, Ms. Wade.”
Jessa froze. She looked up and saw Ella standing right behind her father.
Ella was actually here, at the Wade estate.
Jessa’s face went pale. She stared at Ella, completely shocked. “Ella, what are you doing here? This is my house. Why are you here?”
Ella smiled, her tone light. “Obviously, I came to see you, Ms. Wade.”
