Jason told her that Hanna wasn’t his girlfriend.
Lilly froze, staring at him. “That can’t be right. She told me herself that she was your girlfriend.”
Jason just smiled. “Lilly, do you believe me, or do you believe her?”
Lilly shook her head, honestly lost. Jason’s feelings had always been a mystery to her. She’d learned that the hard way three years ago.
“If Hanna isn’t your girlfriend, then why has she been around you for the past three years? It’s not like you two are married. You can say whatever you want but that doesn’t make it true.”
Jason let out a short laugh, half amused and half annoyed. He wrapped his arm around Lilly’s waist, pulling her close. “Lilly, what kind of guy do you think I am? Do you really think I’m a liar? Or that I’d be too scared to admit I’m dating someone?”
Lilly pushed at his chest, trying to make some space between them. “I don’t want to talk about this right now. I have things to deal with. Let me go.”
All she could think about was saving the Lynch family business.
Jason didn’t let her go. Instead, he steered her toward his car. “Get in.”
Lilly resisted, frustration bubbling up. “I told you, I have something important to do…”
“Lilly, aren’t you looking for that worker?”
Her eyelashes fluttered. “You know about that?”
Jason nodded. “Get in. I’ll take you to him.”
He opened the passenger door and gently nudged her inside. Then he got in on the driver’s side and leaned over to buckle her seatbelt.
Lilly eyed him, suspicious. “Do you actually know where he is?”
“A lot of people are looking for him right now. They’ve pretty much searched the whole city. He’s got to be hiding somewhere nobody would think to check. That place is... the construction site where he fell.”
Lilly blinked, surprised. That was exactly what she’d been thinking.
After the accident, the site had been closed off. No one would expect the worker to hide there, so nobody had bothered looking.
Lilly was caught off guard that Jason’s thoughts lined up with hers.
