She just left after one call?
Jason’s eyebrows drew together. “Do you know who called her?”
Kent shook his head. “Sorry, sir. I don’t know.”
“Alright. You can go.”
“Yes, sir.”
Kent turned and left.
Jason stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his tall frame tense. He loosened his tie, feeling the weight of her absence. He’d asked her to wait for him here, promised they’d have dinner together. She said yes. Now she was gone.
Last night had changed everything. He wanted her by his side, always. No more goodbyes.
Jason pulled out his phone, opened Lilly’s messages, and started typing.
Where did you go...
He hadn’t even pressed send when his phone rang. He answered, trying to keep his voice calm. “Hello. Who is this?”
A familiar voice answered. “Mr. Farill, it’s me.”
Lucas.
Jason’s expression didn’t change. “Lucas. Why are you calling?”
Lucas’s laughter came through the line. “Mr. Farill, you’re looking for Lilly, aren’t you?”
Jason’s eyes narrowed. “She’s with you?”
“Yeah, she’s with me. We’re having lunch right now.”
So Lilly went to lunch with Lucas.
Jason’s voice turned cold. “I don’t believe you.”
“I’m not lying. If you don’t believe me, you can come see for yourself.”
In all the years he’d worked for Jason, he’d never seen him like this.
“Find them. I want to know exactly where Lilly and Lucas are. Now.”
“Yes, sir. I’ll get on it right away.”
Kent hurried out.
Jason yanked open the top button of his shirt, struggling to catch his breath. He needed to see Lilly. Right now.
Minutes later, Kent returned. “Sir, I found them. I just sent the address to your phone.”
Without a word, Jason grabbed his car keys and strode out of the office.
Lilly sat across from Lucas in a romantic French restaurant, right by the window.
She fixed him with a serious look. “Lucas, just tell me. What happened to Jason’s face?”
Lucas gave her a lazy smile. “Lilly, relax. Let’s eat first.”
