She looked at him, her eyes cold and full of annoyance.
Jason pressed his lips together. "Lilly, you can be mad at me, you can throw a fit if you want, but breaking up isn’t something to joke about. I’m not going to let you go."
"Jason, why are you so stubborn? Don’t you get what I’m saying? I told you, I want to break up!"
"Why? We were fine just yesterday. Last night, we were together. We even promised we'd get married when we got back."
He reached out and held her shoulders. "Lilly, I need to know the truth. Why do you want to break up? Did something happen? Just tell me..."
Lilly cut him off. "Yes. Something did happen."
"What?"
"I couldn’t find the Snow Lotus. Your face can’t be healed."
Jason froze. The silence was heavy, almost suffocating. After a few seconds, he finally spoke. "You’re breaking up with me because of that?"
Lilly’s lips curled into a mocking smile. "Jason, you already know why. Why bother asking? Is pretending not to know supposed to be funny?"
Jason’s voice shook. "So because we couldn’t find the snow lotus, my face won’t ever heal and that’s the reason you’re leaving me? I don’t believe you. You told me you didn’t care about my face. You said—"
"That was all a lie, Jason."
He went rigid.
A searing ache radiated through Lilly’s chest, a pain so sharp it stole the air from her lungs. She could barely breathe, but she had to end this. She had to make him leave.
She met his eyes, her voice steady. "Yes. I mean every word. Go, Jason. I can’t stand your face. It scares me. It makes me sick."
Her words hit him hard. Jason took a step back, lost and broken.
Lilly kept going. "Jason, we're done. It's over. Do you get it this time? Don’t ever come looking for me again. I don’t want to see you."
She turned and walked away.
Jason stood in the pouring rain, watching as she got further and further away. Suddenly, everything went black and he collapsed onto the wet ground.
