"I'm just playing around at home?"
Damaris sat up in bed, blood rushing to her head.
"I cook three meals a day for your family of four, sweep, dust, wash clothes, do dishes, and take care of Kevin! Can't you see all those chores?"
"What's so tiring about chores? Is it harder than my job? Women in my mom's era worked and did chores!" Caleb argued, his temper flaring as he pointed at the woman on the screen.
"Damaris, don't push your luck! Get your ass back here tomorrow!"
Damaris truly couldn't wrap her head around it.
She had only been in Juniper Springs for a few days, and it was with Caleb's approval to get money from Mika.
Why was it that now she had gotten the money and found a much better way to earn a living, he was suddenly treating her like garbage?!
"You tell me to come back and I just come back? Am I your family's maid?" Damaris gripped her phone, her voice suddenly spiking. "In big cities, housekeepers make thousands of dollars a month with free room and board. What gives you the right to act so arrogant over a measly allowance?"
"And that money isn't even my salary! Groceries and daily expenses for four people cost money!"
"When there wasn't enough, you made me ask my daughter for it, claiming you paid for her three years of high school. You're a calculating bastard!"
"Do my daughter and I deserve to be leeched off by your family for the rest of our lives?!"
Damaris's sudden outburst left Caleb stunned.
Usually, when she relied on him for living expenses, any argument would end the moment he lost his temper, leaving her too afraid to speak up.
This time, her temper was worse than his, making him feel a sudden, inexplicable panic.
