"Awesome, sounds good," the department head sighed in relief. "Then I'm all set."
The old Mika was a tragic people-pleaser who bled herself dry but was terrified to ask for a single favor.
If you told her past self to go door-to-door begging businesses for sponsorships, she would have rather choked on a rope.
But now? After ruthlessly siphoning thousands from Lucas and the others?
Manipulating people for cash felt as natural as breathing, and she didn't feel an ounce of guilt.
In fact, the second she offered to find a sponsor, the perfect target had already flashed in her mind.
With the logistics sorted, Mika dismissed the meeting.
As the members filtered out, Mika quietly asked the practical department head to hang back.
"President? What's up?"
Mika's gaze drifted toward the door.
The seemingly harmless Tiana Yates was currently putting on a show of politely letting everyone exit before her.
Only when Tiana vanished down the hall did Mika place a gentle hand on the department head's shoulder.
"You're handling the medical kit purchases, right?"
He nodded. "Yeah, I am."
Mika offered a small smile, her tone suddenly layered with absolute precision.
"Make sure you lock down the iodine and the gauze. Do not let anyone else touch them under any circumstances. If a wound gets infected during treatment, the administration will have my head."
...
The next few days passed in complete peace.
Classes, society meetings, off-campus clinicals.
She exchanged a few casual texts with Lucas.
He invited her out for dinner and karaoke a couple of times, but Mika effortlessly shot him down.
When Lucas hadn't been interested, she had to manufacture interactions to stay on his radar.
But making herself too available now would just bore him.
Push and pull. Hot and cold.
