"Lucas!"

Quince and two other friends burst into the room, each dragging a hiking backpack.

Seeing Lucas's arms and legs locked in plaster casts and bandages, Quince rushed over.

"My god, how did you get so messed up? We couldn't find you anywhere! We thought you blasted straight to the finish line, but you weren't there, and your phone went straight to voicemail."

"I saw a stray cat halfway up the mountain. I didn't want to hit it, lost control, and went right off the cliff."

Lucas gritted his teeth and propped himself up.

"My phone is probably smashed to pieces. A girl who was out hiking saved me and brought me here."

"Ooh, a romantic encounter?! The one whose number you had me add?" Quince leaned in, absolutely starving for gossip. "Well? Is she hot?"

Recalling Mika's clear, unadorned smile, Lucas pursed his lips. "She's an incredibly pure, kindhearted girl."

"Damn, she's hardcore! Dragging a massive guy like you all the way down a mountain."

Felix Finch tossed the backpacks onto the floor. "Where is she? We've gotta thank her properly."

"She went to pay my bill," Lucas frowned as he spoke. "I don't know if she got confused by the process, but she hasn't come back."

"That doesn't make sense," Quince scratched his head. "I transferred her fifteen grand half an hour ago. Who doesn't know how to pay a bill nowadays?"

Felix's eyes widened. "You don't think she took the cash and ran, do you?"

"She wouldn't do that!"

Lucas coughed twice, his freshly set ribs tearing with pain, but his tone was absolute and unflinching.

"You can't be sure about that. Fifteen grand is a massive amount of money to ordinary people." Leo Vance glanced around the room, wrinkling his nose in sheer disgust. "Why are you staying in a dump like this? Let's get you moved to a VIP suite."

"No need." Lucas's eyes flickered.

Though the general ward was undeniably shabby, if he suddenly switched rooms, he was terrified the girl wouldn't be able to find her way back to him.

"Tell you what, I'll go check the billing desk. If she's actually stuck on something, I'll lend a hand."

As Lucas's closest friend, Quince stepped up without hesitation and headed out.

But ten minutes later, he returned, scratching his head.

"Don't accept that transfer. Just consider it her compensation for today."

"I gotta admit, this girl is actually pretty interesting," Quince typed out a reply, tossing out a joke.

"She basically saved your life, and she didn't even try to squeeze a single dime out of you. When have we ever met someone like that? I kinda want to meet her now..."

Felix pulled up a chair and straddled it, resting his arms over the backrest with burning curiosity.

"What does she actually look like? What school does she go to? Or has she already graduated? What's her name?"

Lucas's dark eyes narrowed slightly.

He suddenly realized—he didn't even know the girl's name, and she hadn't bothered to ask for his.

She had even referred to him simply as 'the patient'.

He had fully intended to throw some money at her to clear the debt and forget the whole thing ever happened.

But now, it left an inexplicable, maddening sense of unresolved frustration clawing at his chest.
