The Golden Lycans (Ella) novel Chapter 20

Back to the Packhouse-Part 1

*Austin***

Clap

“I hope you didn’t forget that Freya and I are going back to the pack for the weekend,” I say to Ollie as I change out of my uniform in our room.

“Uh huh. So, what did you want to do about patrols?” he asks, running a comb through his hair in the mirror. I consider his question for a moment. It was only this year I’d been given the responsibility of drafting the patrol plans. It was something I had to liaise with the other packs at the school about. We all did our fair share of patrols. Unfortunately, this weekend was our weekend. The absence of Freya and I would leave quite a hole.

“Double up on the lowers. I’d never admit it to her, but Freya is one of the strongest here and with both her and I gone, that’s two alphas down,” I reply, not wanting to admit that I wanted to ensure the safety of one person in particular. My mind was still repeatedly going over what had almost happened in the library.

“Sure thing, Boss,” Ollie quips, saluting me. I roll my eyes at him. I didn’t consider myself his boss at all.

“Oh one last thing, I was supposed to run combat tomorrow, perhaps you could fill in instead?” I suggest, suddenly remembering another of my newest responsibilities. He nods, thankfully. I wander over to the laundry bin in the corner with my uniform, pausing briefly as I catch a subtle hint of Ella’s scent somewhere in the bundle. I had not concentrated during my classes this afternoon. The fact Ella and I had almost kissed in the library earlier had been firmly stuck in my mind. I was both disappointed but glad that the bell had gone off. I was disappointed it hadn’t happened, but glad it hadn’t…I wanted to do that on a date. My heart races a little while I pull on my hoody while I think back to how she’d nodded when I had correctly guessed she had really wanted to say yes. I resolved to try again next week after we returned from the pack this weekend. At this point, it was clear we were both interested in each other, and I felt nervously jubilant about this…for this wasn’t normal. I was Lycan, and she was… undetermined.

“Kinda glad you’re out of the room all weekend though, to be honest,” Ollie calls through the doorway with a smirk, now kicking back on the sofa. I smile to myself. Typical Ollie.

“Who is it this time?” I ask, only mildly interested. Ollie was definitely in no hurry to find his mate. I pack a few things into my backpack and start to put my trainers on.

“Lydia Grayson from Sociology class.”

I snort in response and chuckle under my breath.

“Interesting…I’m sure you’ll have a great time,” I reply, highly amused.

“Whoa, what’s wrong with Lydia?” Ollie asks, sitting up and looking apprehensive.

“Nothing. She’s cute, hot as hell, but…don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the stuff I’ve heard she’s into,” I laugh, clapping him on the shoulder before heading out the door.

I meet Freya down in the atrium.

“Ready?” I ask.

Clair

“Yep. Don’t worry I’ve asked Ella not to go out running while we are gone,” Freya says, throwing me a knowing expression. Freya isn’t stupid.

“Probably a good idea given her ability to attract rogues,” I mutter as we walk through the door.

“Yeah…Ella seems to be attracting all sorts of wolves lately…rogues…alpha heirs..” Freya quips back with an emphasis on the word heirs. I roll my eyes a little; Freya and her damn nose.

“I told Ollie to double up on some of the patrols while we are both gone. Although he is going to be eaten alive by Lydia Grayson this weekend, so I’m not sure how dependable he is going to be,” I laugh, purposefully ignoring Freya’s comment.

“Oh wow…yeah I don’t think he knows what he’s in for,” Freya replies, laughing out loud for a moment.

We head around the corner to my car, and soon we were on our way back to our pack.

I turn the car up the long sloping driveway that leads up to our pack house. It, like the school, had been in the Landry family for many generations. It was a very large house with eighteen bedrooms, and it was here that we grew up amongst the most senior ranking members of our pack and their families too. It was a vast property which boasted both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a ballroom and a tennis court. It was strange to think I would be inheriting the whole estate one day and having a family of my own.

But, that was still a long, long way off.

I park in the large, covered carport out front, and Freya and I get out.

Just as we walk up to the front door, the door bursts open and our two younger twin sisters come

running out to greet us. The ‘elder’ of the two, Serephina, jumps into my arms.

“Tackle hug!” she shrieks, wrapping her arms and legs around my body. I chuckle and hug her back, while the younger twin Serena gives Freya a big hug herself. They are turning eleven in a week or so, and I know they are very excited about attending Exton next year.

“Whoa, Serena! I do need to be able to breathe!” Freya laughs, pushing our youngest sister away gently.
