You are in Complete Chaos

“Did you follow me?” I exclaim, finding this guy stranger by the minute. He hesitates for a moment before answering.

“Yes, I did,” he says truthfully, “because…okay, look, I know what you are, and I think that can help

you.”

His words stun me a little and I say nothing in response, watching him grab some dead leaves from one of the vines and noisily scrunch them up within his hand into a fine dust. I stand up, brushing some dead leaves that have stuck to my tights.

“What do you think I am?” I ask, wondering why this new peer thinks he was so perceptive. He steps toward me, his purple eyes more dazzling now in the natural light. Why are they purple? He looks around me again and grins another charming smile. This guy was bizarre, but he seemed friendly. If anything, he also felt friendly, as if my awakened faerie senses or whatever, could sense

that about him.

But at the same time I could sense something about him that I hadn’t sensed in anyone here befor e Saturday happened… was this a new thing or just a thing with him? I store the question along with many others that I have, in the back of my mind.

“You’re unique. An ancient species that had the world had been long-lost,” he says carefully, looking around me once gain, “I know that you are Fae.”

I laugh derisively and shake my head before running my hands through my hair in frustration. “WHY is it that everyone else seems to know more about me than / do, through heightened senses or whatever? I only found out what I am, on Saturday evening, and only because a crazy magical necklace I’d worn all my life, that had hidden that part of myself, mysteriously broke. I’m the last surviving one, apparently. I know nothing about myself. When, before I came here, I was pretty sure about who and what I was. But now, that’s totally unraveled, and that is just simply ridiculous!” I exclaim passionately, venting what had been bothering me since I’d woken up yesterday morning; while I stand a greenhouse full of dead plants, accompanied by a total stranger with purple eyes, surrounded by static.

My breathing is becoming a little erratic as my emotions start becoming a little too much to deal with; I feel like I may be on the verge of having a panic attack. He looks at me calmly, with clear sympathy on his face, and he steps closer to me.

“Calm down and focus, Ella. That can change,” he replies slowly, his expression still sympathetic, his voice rather soothing. He steps closer again.

“What makes you think you can help me? I don’t even know you. Besides, what makes you think I’ even need help?” I exclaim, standing my ground as he stands only a foot away from me now. I can feel the strange static charge from around him, once again. He chuckles and looks up at the ceiling for a moment before replying.

“You are absolutely right. I am new and you don’t know me. So… let’s change that,” he says coolly with a smirk, starting to walk in a circle around me.

“I, am a hybrid. I am both an alpha Lycan after my father, and I am warlock after my mother. Hybrids like me don’t come along that often. Maybe once every twenty years, or so lam told. But when we do, we are either very unstable, or…we are very powerful,” he says, gesturing to himself at the last part of his sentence. My breathing evens as I feel myself calming down as I listen to Will speak. He continues to walk around me in a circle.

“Being neither full Lycan nor full warlock used to be incredibly difficult for me during my formative years, and indeed, into my early teens. But I worked hard, and I focused, and now I am in complete control of both sides of myself. So, as you can see, I understand quite a bit about control, about balance and certainly about great power…which I can sense coming off you rather strongly when I am close. You need control, and you need balance; you are in such turmoil. But to have control and balance, you need an understanding of yourself first.”

He could feel power coming off me? Was that the static sensation I got from him?

“But, why do you think I need help? How can you tell? All we’ve talked about is chemistry and now…about you. So, how is it that you feel you know so much about me already?” I repeat my question. I wanted to know why this guy had managed to pin me so quickly, I was quite unnerved. “Because, Ella, it is all over your aura,” he says simply, “and your aura is in complete chaos.”

He start to look around me once more like he had in chemistry class. I stare at him in silence for a moment while I run through what he just said in my head.

“My aura?” I repeat, feeling curious. He smiles at me again.

“A few with magical abilities can read auras. Generally, people who are quite empathic, good with people and good at reading them. Yours is so unlike any I have ever come across before, and it intrigued me immediately. Like a witch, you bear the hallmarks of elemental magic within you, but a heavy abundance of some other type of magic within you as well. A type of magic I’ve never seen before in anyone else; and I’ve traveled quite a bit in the past year or two. Your chaos comes from the uncertainty you clearly feel about a multitude of things. I can’t be certain what those things are, because I don’t know you. Yet. Given your rather recent knowledge of what you are, I can hand on heart say that, most notably, you feel lost,” he says, his eyebrows raised as he stares at me with his brilliant purple eyes. His last three words make me crumble a little and tears prick my eyes. I

“That would be an understatement,” I sigh, hugging my arms around myself and clenching my jaw anxiously. Will smiles warmly at me.

“I have been where you are. I needed help, I needed a teacher. I can help you. I can help you connect to yourself, the self you never knew. But it is time to find out, and we will start right now. Come, sit down here,” he gestures to the floor space by the fountain. He then waves his hand a little and magically clears away a patch among the dead leaves and detritus. I frown at him for a moment before he sits himself down cross-legged on the floor, his back perfectly straight. He nods toward the floor opposite him. But, I hesitate, and he sighs.
