The Golden Lycans (Ella) novel Chapter 59

Will’s Truth Pt.1

***Ella***

I wake the next morning feeling rather dehydrated and with a throbbing headache. I look at my

alarm clock and realise with a pang, that it is nine thirty; I had definitely missed my parents departure. I rub my eyes, trying to figure out why I felt so…

…Oh no.

I remember now.

I must have had about two bottles worth of Asti to myself over the course of the day; that was a

lot for someone who didn’t drink at all, being seventeen and all…

…Another oh no…

A vivid memory of being outside in the garden with Will, me tugging at his jumper…coaxing him closer to me…hoping he would kiss me…but he’d rejected me. So kindly…but he had. I cover my eyes with my hands and sigh loudly.

“No no no!” I mutter to myself in delayed embarrassment.

“And that… is why I pulled you away,” I hear Will’s voice say, softly, from the doorway. I jump a little and take my hand away from my face, not having heard the door open. He’s standing in the doorway looking at me with fond sympathy.

“Morning?” I say tentatively, feeling several levels of shame right now.

“It definitely is. How is your head?” he asks with a little smirk, taking a seat at the very end of my

bed. I groan a little.

“Fuzzy, and… very sore,” I admit, sitting up fully in bed.

“Nice pyjamas,” he laughs, noticing my brushed cotton pyjamas in a blue and yellow rubber duck print. I smile a little, but look down at my hands. I can’t bring myself to look him in his eyes, just yet.

“Are you okay?” he asks, looking at me curiously, “that was a fair amount of alcohol you had

yesterday. It was almost like you were medicating. Which, according to your aura last night, you most definitely were.”

I sniff a little and continue to avoid eye contact with him for a moment.

“I am feeling very complicated,” I say simply. I look back at him to see that he is studying my aura a gain. I feel quite bare when he does this, as if I had nothing I could hide, particularly when he could

see things I didn’t understand or see myself.

“First, you should get dressed. Then I’ll make you some breakfast. Later, if you want to, you can explain to me why you’re feeling so much more conflicted,” Will says, standing up and exiting my

bedroom.

I flop backwards into my pillow again and make a sound of frustration to myself. Eventually, after more minutes of introspection, I get out of bed, pulling on some jeans and a white tank top along

with my favourite cardigan.

I go down the three flights of stairs into the kitchen, very glad to see that the coffee machine is on. I pour myself a mug of filter coffee, adding a bit of milk into it and a large drizzle of vanilla syrup.

I take a sip and sigh happily, sinking onto one of the stools at the breakfast bar.

“How about…a bacon sandwich?” Will says, coming up the stairs from the living room.

“That sounds very acceptable,” I reply lightheartedly, trying to act nor ally despite my faux pas last

night.

I start to get off the stool to do it when he holds his hand up.

“No no, I’ll do it. Your mum showed me where everything is this morning before they left,” he says, opening one of the large drawers and pulling out a frying pan.

“But, this is my house!” I say indignantly, “I mean I still can’t quite believe you’re even here.”

He looks downcast for a moment before heading to the fridge and getting out bacon and butter.

“I do need to talk to you about that, actually, about why I’m here,” he says. His expression isn’t jovial anymore and I wonder what he is keeping from me.

“Will…what’s going on?” I ask, leaning forwards on the bar stool, with my head on my hands.

“When I tell you, you are going to be rightfully angry and upset with me. I will only tell you if your promise to still allow me to stay here so I can protect you until we go back to school. You can ignore me and hate me but you must let me protect you,” he says, his face serious and his eyes

fearful. I shake my head at him and scoff.

“Will, I trust you and I know you, whatever you need to tell me, I know we will be okay,” I say

sincerely, but he still looks so unsure.

“Food first,” he says, laying some bacon into the hot pan.

After a delicious bacon sandwich, we sit down on the sofas in the living room.

“Okay, please tell me what’s going on with you,” I ask, clutching a new mug of coffee rather

Will exhales slowly, clearly thinking about where to start as he rubs his hands together. I can

almost feel how tense he is about whatever it is.

“I told you the day we met, that I am a hybrid, and that the biggest issue with my dual nature had been about controlling the two sides of myself. Both on their own, and together at the same time,”

he begins. I nod.

“Sometimes…Oh, Ella, it was once really bad. I never intended to, but people were hurt, and that definitely affected me mentally, quite substantially, in the past.

I felt incredibly isolated and I was unable to be truly one or the other. Coming from my family, in our pack, there was a lot of expectation and I really struggled. I managed to shift for first time when I blended with Fabian, but I struggled to do so again until a few years later when I found…him.”

The way he says ‘him’, drips with disdain, and his expression turns cold, an icy edge to his normally

warm gaze.

I take a sip of coffee and continue to listen intently. He takes another deep breath and continues.

“When I was sixteen, just after someone got hurt quite badly due to the poor control of my magic, I quit school and I went out on my own, looking for anything, or anyone, to help me to command both sides of myself. I had no idea what or who I was looking for, but I think I also just needed to ge t away. My family wasn’t happy, having this…dud of a child, and hybrids are not often looked on favourably. My brothers were both very strong, very capable alphas and I just didn’t fit, and that made me feel incredibly depressed.

I was travelling through the South of France last year, during the summer, and that’s when I found him. Erebus, he called himself, ” Will says, stopping for a moment.

“He was also a hybrid, albeit much older and of beta rank. He drew me in, promising me I could have absolute control over each half of myself, both sides being as powerful as they would have been, had I been born one or the other. It was all I ever wanted and since he was able to do the same for himself, I put complete trust and faith into this man.

There are a fair number of hybrids out there of course, but next to none are alphas, which is why I had such terrible trouble controlling my magical abilities and being able to shift properly, more

than other lycan hybrids out there.

Erebus did as he promised and after a year, I had achieved total control over each half. The downside was that he used blood magic to make that possible.”

“What’s blood magic?” I ask.
