I sigh with satisfaction, enjoying the heat from the fire, but also from my magic as it still blazes it’s way around my body.

It is overwhelming, Will hadn’t lied about that Qverwhelming but exciting. I go and sit on one of the sofas and stare intently at the flames, once again transfixed by what I’d created.

A few minutes later, Will comes into the room with two hot drinks which he puts onto the coffee table, sitting down next to me on the sofa.

“Wow, you did that quickly, too,” Will chuckles, nodding toward the flames.

The glow of the fire flickers against the encroaching darkness outside, casting warm light across his features, accentuating every sharp angle and striking line.

I don’t know if it’s that or the lingering effects of the fire magic, but my heartbeat quickens in his presence.

“You know,” I say suddenly, surprising even myself, “you’re very handsome.”

The effect is immediate. A blush warms his cheeks, and his lips curve into a shy smile. But his eyes, in their deep unnatural purple, flash brighter for just a moment before he responds.

“You say that,” he murmurs, voice husky, “while being completely unaware of just how exquisite you are.”

My heart slams harder against my ribs.

Since the full moon at the end of term, he had stopped hiding how he felt about me. His boldness, his unashamed desire, both emboldened and enticed me. And right now, with adrenaline still coursing in my veins from the fire magic, I want to lean into it.

So…I do.

I shift closer, the space between us shrinking, the air growing thick with a raw, inescapable tension. I can hear his breathing now as deep as my own. He swallows hard as my gaze locks onto his, making my intent rather unmistakable.

His expression tightens, clearly torn, but I prey he doesn’t fight it…

“Ella… remember what I said,” he warns softly.

But I shake my head, leaning in even closer, not wanting to remember, nor hear it again.

I didn’t care…

I see the war in his eyes, the need that mirrors my own. He wants this, he wants me. Just as much as I want him.

Except, it doesn’t feel like a want anymore.

It feels like need.

A craving, wild and unfamiliar, stirs deep in my core, stronger than anything I’ve ever felt before. It’s alarmi ng. It’s exhilarating…and I need to see where it leads…

“think you’re why I’m so conflicted these days, Will,” I murmur, leaning in closer, my eyes locked onto his.

“I thought of you to do the fire magic…that’s how important you’ve become to me, how much you have made me feel….”

His breath hitches, but he doesn’t move.

“I don’t want to be some higher power’s puppet, following a plan they’ve written for me,” I continue, voice steady, unwavering. “I want to make my own choices.”

With a boldness I didn’t know I possessed, I move in, closing the distance until our noses are nearly touching.

The fire magic’s immediate effects have faded, but the sensation still lingers, buzzing like a pleasant heat beneath my skin.

I feel hungry for Will…for this.

Cupping his face in my hands, I pull him toward me and press my lips firmly to his. There’s no hesitation this time, no lingering doubt or fear-just the undeniable fire that’s been building between us, waiting for ignition.

He responds instantly, his mouth claiming mine with a fervour that strikes straight through to my core. His hands slide to my waist, fingers gripping me tightly, almost possessively, as if afraid I’ll disappear. I deepen the kiss without thought, my tongue finding his, tasting him, feeling him. He growls low in his throat, the sound sending a delicious shiver down my spine.

I brace for the pain-the strange, searing sensation I’d felt the last time we kissed, back in the greenhouse. But it doesn’t come.

There’s no burn.

Only heat.

Raw, electric heat that spreads like wildfire through every inch of me.

His fingers thread through my hair, tugging just enough to make me gasp softly into his mouth, and I do the same, burying my hands in his dark waves. He shifts forward, guiding me down onto the sofa, his weight pressing into me. The feel of him-solid, warm, male-makes my breath hitch. His body fits against mine like it was made to. His arousal is undeniable, pressing firmly against me, and I can’t help the way my hips lift, seeking friction-connection.

His lips break from mine only to trail hot, open-mouthed kisses along my jaw. I tilt my head, breath catching as he finds the hollow beneath my ear and nips it lightly, drawing a small, involuntary moan from

His mouth moves lower, across the curve of my neck, his tongue flicking lightly at the sensitive skin there before his lips return to mine, hungry and wild. I arch beneath him, the pressure building fast and fierce. His hand slips under my top, warm against the skin of my stomach as he explores upward, until he cups my breast, his thumb brushing across my n****e through the fabric of my bra.

I gasp, pleasure blooming sharp and sudden. I’ve never been touched like this before-never been seen like this. The intensity of it hits me hard, a rush of sensation that makes my thighs tense and my breath

stutter. He groans into the kiss at my reaction, emboldened.

Instead, I reach for the hem of my top and pull it over my head, tossing it aside. His breath catches as he looks down at me, eyes blazing with something dark and reverent, before lowering his mouth to the exposed skin of my chest, kissing the swell of my breast before tugging the strap of my bra gently down. My hands find the hem of his shirt, fingers trembling as I lift it, and he helps me pull it off, discarding it onto the floor beside us.

His skin is warm beneath my palms, muscles taut and shifting as he moves. I trail my fingers across his shoulders, his back, memorising the feel of him. His mouth returns to mine, his kisses rougher now, more desperate, as though something inside him has snapped.

Our bodies shift together, tangled in want and heat, and still it doesn’t feel close enough.

I want him closer.

Need him closer.

And for the first time in a long time, I stop thinking about consequences, or the future, or what might happen next.

Right now, there’s only this.

But then, suddenly… he stops.

Will stills above me, chest heaving. For a heartbeat, we just breathe-intertwined, lips inches apart, skin flushed, hearts racing.

Then he sighs. A deep, heavy sound from somewhere deep inside him. Slowly, reluctantly, he pulls back just enough to look at me properly. His thumb grazes/my cheek, a tender gesture that feels both grounding and heartbreaking.

His eyes-dark, stormy-are filled with longing. Absolute, unrestrained lust still lingers in them.

…and…guilt.

“No, no, no, Ella,” he mutters, his voice rough, strained. He shakes his head hard, jaw clenched tight.

“This is… this is wrong.”

He tears himself away with a low, frustrated growl, scrubbing a hand through his hair before sitting back against the couch, adjusting his trousers in a rigid, almost angry motion.

I slowly push myself upright, chest rising and falling rapidly, my pulse still thudding in my ears. My lips are swollen, tingling. My thoughts are scattered.

I had wanted this.

Every part of me had wanted him.

And he had wanted me.

I know he had!

So why… why did he stop?
