Freya’s Confession

Your aura-” Will starts to say before I interrupt.

“-says I really enjoyed the past two hours, and I’m very grateful for you setting this up,” I say with a

broad smile.

“Erebus is a very real threat. More people here need to be prepared,” Will then says seriously, his expression a little intense.

“And we will be. But for now, there is a biiig party this weekend and I think you should be asking Ann abelle to it as your date,” I say with a knowing smirk. Will laughs defensively, and I notice him blush,

for the first time.

“She has a sharp wit, and she is very cute,” he admits.

“Well, trust me, she’d be very glad if you asked her,” I inform him.

“How’s it going with Austin?” he asks as we pick up one of the mats.

“Well, I’m still being a chicken and avoiding him. I know now that he’s been the most patient person, and I’ve just been…an i***t,” I sigh, standing up.

“You’re not an i***t. You didn’t grow up listening to stories about what it’s like to experience the mate bond. You felt something strong, it concerned you, and you did what you needed to protect yourself. I’m sure he will be very understanding of it,” Will says diplomatically. We finish putting the last mat away, and then I remember what else I wanted to do.

I release my wings from my shoulders again, and stare up at the high ceiling of the hall.

“I want to try to fly,” I explain nervously to Will as he looks at me with serious intrigue.

“Oh wow, this I HAVE to stay to see,” he says eagerly, stepping away from me.

I concentrate on trying to flap my wings just like I had in the bedroom the other evening, feeling gentle gusts as they move back and forth. But I needed them faster. Much faster. They are soon flapping very fast, but my feet are still firmly planted on the floor. I try running and then jumping, but all that happens is that my jump becomes more of an extended leap. I come off the ground by about a metre, and only moved forwards around four.

Will is looking on with amusement from the side of the hall.

“Any ideas?” I call out. He shakes his head, still laughing.

“You are solidly on your own with this one!”

Was I too heavy? I relax my wings and stand there for a few minutes, considering what else to try. Was magic meant to be involved? I had figured the wings were purely physical, but maybe everything needed some magic after all. I focus my magic and concentrate, urging my wings to flap again, this time reaching a speed where my wings looked fairly blurry. I spring into the air,

holding my arms extended above my head.

This time, it works!

I rise quickly into the air, a shriek of surprise escaping me as I level out my arms to remain stationary in the air about a metre from the ceiling.

“Oh my goddess, that is just so cool!” Will shouts at me, looking up in excitement.

I pause for a moment, enjoying the feeling of complete weightlessness, looking down at Will and the hall below me. I lean toward my right, moving in that direction, then the left. I then extend my arms forwards, and moving forwards along with them.

This actually seemed easy!

I raise my arms above my head and I rise toward the ceiling…perhaps a little too quickly as I bump my head quite hard. I fall a few metres in the air as Will shouts out, but thankfully I manage to steady myself just above the floor.

“That was close,” I mutter to myself, promptly dropping to the floor.

“Good job you didn’t end up in the medical room again,” Will teases.

“Well, next time I encounter a rogue, I guess I could just fly away,” I laugh. My wings neatly rolling back into my shoulders as we go through the doors.

As we walk out to the atrium I suddenly stop for a moment by the vending machines. I could feel the pull becoming strong once again, trying to drag my attention down the corridor. I shrink back against the wall, pulling a confused Will along with me, hearing Austin and Ollie’s voices. They must’ve just had a gym session.

“…Honestly, all I’m saying, man, is keep your options open on Saturday when you’re greeting everyone, you could be wrong about Ella,” Ollie says. I hear a growl in response, most definitely

from Austin.

“Ollie. Give it up, it’s her. It’s always been her since the day she got here. As soon as dinner is over, I am going over straight over to her, and you’ll see that I’ve been right all along,” I hear Austin say sternly as they ascend the staircase. I feel my stomach flip, and my heart beat wildly at his words.

He really did know.

Only a few more days, I think to myself. The pull dulls a little now as Austin walks further away from

“See? And you were worried the bond had gone. Your aura went nuts, just then,” Will whispers. I issued a little smile and we then stepped out from the wall.

“Why didn’t you just run at him right then? You know it, he knows it, get it done,” Will adds with a shrug, I shake my head.

“Freya thinks his ego would prefer to do what he’s just said to Ollie. Besides…I still don’t know what I’m going to say. Accepting him is fine, I just…we went on one date. It feels like I’m preparing to accept a marriage proposal or something…to someone I went on one single date with. A date I ruined,” I say with a furrowed brow.

“Well…it’s the Lycan equivalent, so…you kind of are,” Will says seriously. I look back at him and sigh.

“Goodnight, Will.”

When I get back to the room, I find Freya surrounded by piles of dresses; some on her bed, some on the floor…some even on my bed.

“Are you finally making up those charity bags?” I ask, eyeing close to forty dresses dotted around the room after I step over a pile of beach dresses.

“No,” Freya sighs loudly, “my parents won’t buy me a new dress for Austin’s party. So ridiculous. I’m the birthday boy’s sister for crying out loud! These things are noted, and so many notable packs

are coming!”

“You do already have quite a few dresses, Princess,” I tease, picking up a red, floor-length cocktail dress, “oh wow, I love this. This must look amazing on you with your colouring.”

“Yeah it’s not bad, it’s just…I’ve worn it before!” she exclaims anxiously, her hands in her hair as she surveys the c*****e. I cannot help but laugh.

“So? I’ve never seen it; when did you last wear it?” I ask.

“At a wedding in the Cotswolds during the summer,” she replies hotly.

“Freya, for heavens sake, I am sure hardly anyone, IF anyone, from the sixth form at this school, even went to that wedding,” I laugh.

“OLLIE has already seen me wear it!” she then cries out suddenly. She then gasps and claps both her hands over her mouth in shock. My eyes widen in surprise at her outburst and watch her cheeks turn bright crimson as she sinks down onto the edge of her bed. She looks thoroughly like

she wants the ground to swallow her whole, right now. I can imagine why…

“Whoa. Why do you suddenly care about what Ollie thinks?” I ask with intrigue, stepping towards her now as her hand slips down from her face, and she looks at me rather anxiously. It was finally F

reya’s turn to feel embarrassed and busted, now. I was enjoying the change of dynamic. She just

raises her eyebrows at me in response with a particular expression and says nothing.

“Uh huh…well, I have to be honest, I really did not see this one coming,” I say quietly, sitting down next to her pile of dresses on the edge of my bed. She sighs and starts fiddling with the label on

one of the dresses.

“I don’t really know what’s going on, I just…I mean over Christmas we hung out a fair bit while Austin was busy with dad…and…I don’t know…I think I might like him. Maybe. For the past few months, I just cannot ignore that he is not the dorky, skinny little kid I grew up with anymore. He’s eighteen in two weeks, and he’s…well…more than physically adequate and I keep noticing that as I’ve gotten older too. Mira is…honestly Els, she won’t shut up and I am just…really confused,” she admits quietly, looking a little distraught and conflicted.
