Matthew continued reading Pierre's diary.
"I told the old lady an easy solution. She just had to head to the pharmacy and grab a pack of Nexcoldia. It'd be three dollars for a pack of 20 pills.
"She'd need to start with four pills for the first dose, then she'd have to take two pills after each meal. I told her to take it three times a day. After three days, she'd be back to normal.
"When the old lady heard it'd only take three dollars to treat it, she eagerly held my hands and said thanks. As she was about to leave, Trafford came back.
"When Trafford found out that the old lady was a patient, he told her I was just an intern and wasn't qualified to treat her. So, he'd need to diagnose her again.
"The old lady went along with what Trafford said. He took her temperature, listened to her chest, checked her throat, and finally recommended a blood test.
"She asked how much the blood test would be, and Trafford told her it'd be about 50 dollars. Without the test, he couldn't figure out what was causing the cold and fever. Taking any medicine wouldn't help.
"Trafford even warned that if the fever got serious, her life might be jeopardized. She wanted to say something but bit her tongue after hesitating for a while. Eventually, she agreed to do the blood test and came back with the results later.
"Trafford explained to the old lady that it wasn't a viral flu, but since her fever wasn't coming down, she had to be hospitalized. She was asked to pay 1,000 dollars upfront for the hospital fee.
"I wanted to tell Trafford about the old lady's family situation, but he glared at me, so I had to shut up.
"Meanwhile, when she found out that she had to stay in the hospital, she asked if there was any way to avoid it and just go for conventional treatment.
"Trafford firmly told the old lady that she needed to be hospitalized. She lost it right there and snapped, calling him a greedy doctor.
"She said that my suggestion could get her treated for just three dollars, but Trafford was set on charging her 1,000 dollars for the hospital bill. It felt like he was just trying to drain her dry—he was practically a bloodsucker.
"They started arguing right on the spot. In the end, the security had to escort the old lady out of the hospital. On the other hand, Trafford complained about me to the director and got me fired on that day.
"I felt pretty disheartened. I had lost my job, and I was disappointed in Trafford. How could there be such a heartless doctor in the world?
