The Great Medical Saint (Matthew) novel Chapter 925

The diary started, "I had a job interview today in a new hospital at a business park. The hospital had a well-designed floor plan. It had lots of natural light, and plenty of space, and the rooms were set up just right.

"I could hook up to oxygen through the pipe. I didn't need to haul heavy oxygen tanks anymore. The outlets on the wall were also usable for all kinds of devices.

"Instead of searching for a stand for the IV, there was a track on the ceiling with a hook that moved along it. The design was so user-friendly.

"I just took a quick tour of the hospital, and I ended up really liking this one. I think I would be happy to spend the rest of my life here as a doctor.

"I knocked on the door of the deputy hospital director's office. He was a man in his 40s, wearing glasses, and a little chubby.

"When he took my resume, I spotted a gold watch on him. I asked without thinking, 'I-Is this the gold watch everyone talks about?'

"The deputy director flicked his wrist, showing off his watch. He chuckled and added, 'The gold watch is 120 thousand dollars.' I thought he was dragging and found his behavior disgusting.

"What was the big fuss over having more money? It didn't impress me.

"Smiling, the deputy director continued, 'If you work here, you'll wear a gold watch someday. Just put in the effort, and everything will come to you.'

"I didn't expect the deputy director to encourage me, so I regretted how I'd looked down on him earlier. I cheerfully responded, 'Thanks. I'll work hard.'

"He spent a good ten minutes on my resume before setting it down on the desk and asking, 'You graduated from a top-notch school, one of the best in the industry. So, tell me, what's your reason to study medicine?'

"I replied without thinking, 'To treat people and save lives.'

"The director added with a grin, 'Well said. The job of a doctor is to treat illnesses and save lives.

'I've checked your resume, and you meet all the qualifications. You may start anytime, but there are performance goals you need to hit here.'

"I thought my targets were based on how many patients I treat. That was a real challenge, but I was fired up.

"My mind was still blank. Upon hearing his question, I responded immediately, 'Yes. I'm Cleeve.'

"Right after I said so, the deputy director suddenly grabbed my resume and threw it right in my face. The pages hit me and scattered on the floor.

"The sudden change of events left me flabbergasted. 'Why'd you throw my resume at me?'

"He jabbed his finger at my face and snapped, 'Get out of my face. I'd rather hire a dog than you.'

"His words made me furious. 'What's your problem? You don't have to hire me, but why insult me?'

"The deputy director pointed right at my nose. 'You moron! I didn't check your name earlier. I didn't know you were the idiot Trafford mentioned.

"'Did you just treat a patient with a three-dollar Nexcoldia? So, you think you're a noble doctor, huh? But honestly, you're just a fool in everyone else's eyes.'
