Matthew felt rest assured—he had finally located the medical literature.
This time, things seemed to be going smoother than usual. There weren't any Eastorians coming to snatch the medical literature from him as well, which was unexpected.
"Let's go and get the book, then, " Matthew said.
Pierre hummed in reply and then told Devin, "Call the mortuary and have them place Maddock's body in the refrigeration unit first. We'll discuss the funeral procedures when I return."
Devin nodded and turned to leave, parting ways with Matthew and Pierre who left after him as well.
Later, a lawyer with a document folder entered the police station to find Jerome. "Mr. Murray, I've familiarized myself with the details of what happened.
"It's simple—as long as Brian recants his statement and says that he was coerced into saying such a thing, you won't have anything to do with the matters related to organ trafficking. You're innocent by law."
Jerome shook his head slightly, saying, "It's not that simple. Having him deny his statement wouldn't solve everything.
"If someone ran a background check on my finances, they'd be able to dig up a trace of all my activities. There's nothing the law can do for me."
The lawyer then frowned and said, "I'm a lawyer, and I can only help you in court. There's nothing much that I can do for you if the law doesn't help."
Then, Jerome rubbed his thumb and index fingers together, creating a gesture that signified money. "This is the fundamental solution to every problem. I've already contacted the person, so you'd just have to help me deliver two of my cards.
"Once you've done that, this matter has nothing to do with you anymore."
In an instant, the lawyer understood that Jerome was merely treating him as a deliveryman. "Tell me where I should get the card from and to whom and where I should deliver it."
Just then, Jerome dipped a finger into his mouth and coated it with his saliva. He used his finger and wrote the words one by one on the table with his saliva.
Pierre then pointed at the door on the first floor. "The first floor. The landlords usually live on the first floor, while the rest of the units upstairs are for tenants. I'll knock."
As he spoke, he headed toward the door and knocked, yelling, "Carson, are you at home?"
Then came a response in a woman's voice. "Who is it?"
Pierre answered, "It's me!"
The woman went silent for a moment before she stated impatiently, "How am I supposed to know who you are? If you're looking for a place to rent, you can keep looking. I haven't got any more units to rent."
Pierre didn't think he would get misunderstood, so he quickly added, "Rebecca, it's me—Monkey!"
Immediately, Rebecca went quiet. After a while, she roared aloud in anger, "Screw off! Get the hell away and never come find Carson again."
