Rebecca continued to complain, saying, "It's not that bad. It's just that he really sucks at traditional medicine. But honestly, it's quite embarrassing.
"You have no idea how sharp-tongued those doctors can be, and they'd always treat him as a joke whenever he attended a conference. I can't stand seeing him get humiliated like that as his wife, so please try and talk some sense into him if you see him."
Matthew replied with a solemn expression, saying, "I'll definitely try and talk some sense into him. Tell me where the conference is held, and I'll go talk to him."
Rebecca then pointed to the south and said, "He's at Skywisp Hotel. They always hold their conference there."
Once Matthew received the address, he turned to leave for his next destination.
Soon after he passed by two alleyways, Pierre popped out from one of the alleys. His hair was messy, and his clothes were tattered into pieces. There were even scratch marks present on his face.
Pierre stared at Matthew and asked, "Matthew, you… didn't you say that you would bear the consequences? Why did you betray me? Look at what happened to me!"
Matthew responded coldly, "Hey, I helped you exact revenge, fought for you, and even killed for you! Yet, you're here complaining when all you had to do was receive a few scratches from a woman? Aren't you being too ungrateful?"
Pierre was left speechless by his barrage of questions and awkwardly said, "I'm sorry. I, uh, I… I overlooked that. You're right. What does it matter to get scratched a few times?
"Don't worry, sir. You can use me as a shield anytime you like. I'll bear all of the consequences in your stead for the rest of my life."
Matthew let out a disgruntled huff. "Do you know how much older you are than me? And you're calling me sir? I can't have it that way!"
Pierre hurriedly shook his head and said, "Sir, you can. I've spent all my life feeling defeated and even wrote all my feelings of hatred and bitterness in a diary. It's been really hard for me.
"But I found myself getting happier in the short time I've spent with you. I've never been more carefree in my entire life, so I'm giving you all my respect from now on."
However, Matthew felt burdened by the title and said, "I can't accept it. You're much more senior than me—it's inappropriate."
Pierre then said with a smile on his face, "Sir, from now on, I'll be your lackey. Wherever you go, I'll go, and I'll do whatever you ask me to as well."
Every table was full of people, and it was pretty lively, with one or the other chatting away while drinking and smoking. Nevertheless, there was one particular person with a frown on his face, his expression seemingly anxious.
He complained to the person next to him, saying, "Dr. Lazare, why aren't we talking about our medical skills and exchanging knowledge in this conference yet?"
Since his wife hadn't allowed him to attend the conference, he couldn't help but wish that he could just learn something new today and head home immediately after.
However, it had been more than an hour since they started their meal, and it didn't seem to be ending anytime soon.
Zephyr Lazare then smiled and said, "Let's not talk about anything related to the medicine. It's frustrating enough to have to deal with patients every day. I'm just here to have fun."
Carson then lightly shook his head. How on earth did Zephyr even become a doctor? He felt humiliated to be affiliated with him, even.
Zephyr then moved his seat closer to Carson and leaned in toward the latter. He brought up his hands to his mouth as he whispered into Carson's ear, saying, "I heard that the hotel has recently hired a new batch of staff with top-notch service here. Have you heard about it?"
