“Braxler, let's break up!”
The words were spoken through tears, yet the tone was incredibly resolute.
Marion and Braxler were instantly dumbfounded.
They had just discussed outside about intensifying their efforts upon returning. They wanted to take advantage of Nicolette's presence to get the Chance family to agree on the spot.
The people of the Chance family, on the other hand, became excited.
Tears involuntarily streamed down Willhemina's face as she said, “My child, you've finally come to your senses.”
“Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, and Dad, I'm sorry. I was foolish in the past!”
Finnegan's hypnosis worked. At that moment, Nicolette felt like a person who had been blindfolded for a long time and had just had their eyes wiped clean. She could see everything clearly.
Samuel reassured, “It's all right! It's all right. It's good you could pull back before it was too late.”
“How did you manage to do it?” Bernice asked Finnegan in a hushed tone.
Finnegan took a sip of coffee and replied softly, “Nicolette and Braxler have been together for six years. You could say that all of Nicolette's free time has been spent being influenced by Braxler. In her heart, Nicolette has already considered Braxler to be the most important person. Therefore, under such circumstances, I could only resort to hypnosis, invoking her inner pride and memories, allowing her to awaken on her own.”
Upon hearing that, Bernice nodded, seemingly understanding, yet not quite grasping the concept.
Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she cast a shy glance at Finnegan. This guy succeeded, so does that mean I can't spit it out this time? Do I have to swallow it?
“Nicolette, what did you say?” At this point, Marion also reacted, directly showing her fiery side. “Braxler has been with you for six years, giving you the best years of his youth, and now you actually want to break up. How could you?”
Nicolette turned around. Her state of mind had completely changed.
Looking at Marion and her son with disdain, she asked, “Is his youth the only one that matters? Doesn't my youth count for anything?”
Braxler angrily said, “Nicolette, what are you implying? Have you forgotten I've been the only one treating you well for the past six years?”
“Were you good to me?” Nicolette scoffed. “Braxler, I did think you were good to me before. But now I realize it's not just that you were good to me. It's your presence that makes everyone else not want to associate with me because they despise you! Moreover, you are not worthy of me!”
Braxler was embarrassed. “Who isn't worthy of you?”
“You!” Having come to her senses, Nicolette no longer harbored any affection for Braxler. “In terms of ability, ten of you couldn't even match up to me. As for ambition, not only are you inferior to me, but you also fall short compared to anyone else.”
At this point, Nicolette said with self-mockery, “It's laughable that among all the outstanding classmates and seniors who pursued me, I actually chose you, the one at the bottom. Braxler, you really know how to brainwash me! However, it doesn't matter anymore. Now that I've seen your true colors, you can leave with your mother. Let's part on good terms!”
Seeing Nicolette's determination, Braxler became flustered. “Nicolette, let's talk this out calmly. We have six years of shared emotions between us,” he said.
At this point, Marion also became anxious. “Did your parents say something they shouldn't have? You must—”
Nicolette interrupted Marion, “Enough. From now on, if you dare to utter another word about my parents, don't blame me for being rude. Leave immediately, and I never want to see you again! If you're looking for a girl who brings a dowry to marry into your family, you should seek elsewhere.”
Suddenly, Braxler was at a loss, hurriedly pulling Marion aside. “Mom, what should we do? She's serious about this!”
From the start, they had relied on Nicolette's backing to act with such audacity and fearlessness.
Given the significant changes in Nicolette, Marion was at a loss.
With a tone of resignation, she said, “Nickie, are you upset because I'm asking for too much dowry? If that's the case, I can ask for less, just as we originally agreed. Besides, I'm only asking on your behalf. Otherwise, everything will belong to your younger brother, and you'll be left with nothing!”
Even at that point, Marion was still trying to brainwash Nicolette, which greatly angered the Chance family.
However, Nicolette was not the same as before. They all followed Finnegan's wishes and remained silent, leaving Nicolette to resolve the situation herself.
They believed that Nicolette wouldn't make the same mistake again.
At that moment, Finnegan's phone rang. It was a call from Reynard.
Reynard usually wouldn't call unless it was something important, so Finnegan said to Bernice, “I'm going to step next door to take a call.”
Seeing that Braxler was on his knees and Marion was pleading, Finnegan felt that there would be no more surprises. Besides, there were also arrangements made by Alisha.
Finnegan then got up and walked to the tearoom in the adjacent private room to answer Reynard's call.
Bang!
Bang!
With a swift flash of his figure, he darted out of the private room, intent on dragging out the hidden Cameron. This guy keeps hiding, causing me to not eat or sleep well!
No sooner had Finnegan left than another bullet pierced through the shattered window, striking Braxler in the thigh. The pain was so intense that Braxler cried out as if he were being slaughtered.
Marion cried out, “Help! Help!”
As a result, a bullet struck her in the abdomen, leaving Marion without the strength to even roll under the table.
Braxler cried out, “Mom!”
Swish!
Another bullet came hurtling toward Braxler, striking him squarely in the abdomen. He collapsed onto the ground, blood flowing freely, barely clinging to life.
Nicolette's face turned pale. “Braxler! Mrs. Ainsley!!”
After all, she couldn't ignore the six years of relationship they had with each other.
Right then, Hector urgently exclaimed, “Eugene, hold on to your sister. You must not go out.”
Eugene quickly grabbed Nicolette. “Nicolette, this is likely a sniper. You can't go out there. A single shot could blow your head off!”
“What about them?”
At that moment, Eugene felt a secret thrill in his heart, but his face showed nothing. “It seems the gunfire has stopped. Let's wait until others arrive,” he said.
At this moment, there was a man atop a building of over thirty stories located five hundred meters away.
As Cameron dismantled his equipment, he grumbled, “F*ck! It's even affecting my mood to kill the target. Just die already!”
He had heard everything through the listening device he had placed earlier.
And so, the plan was abruptly altered, with the gun now aimed at Marion and Braxler.
